NDC to protest and petition President on Ejura Killings

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has disclosed its plans to embark on a protest on the 6th of July on the recent killing of some innocent citizens in Ejura.

In a communique by the Youth Organizer of the Party, the protest which will be held will also be used as a medium to present a petition to the President demanding justice for persons killed and abused by security personnel.

According to the NDC, it will be protesting from 8 am to midday to force the government to deliver justice for all killings and mishandling of citizens by personnel of the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana Armed Forces. The party said it will use the protest to seek social justice for all unemployed youth in the country.

“This letter is sent your way in line with the Public Order Act. The Act (491) stipulates that the police be notified under section (1) of any special event within the meaning of the Public Order Act. The protest is to demand justice for all persons killed and brutalized by state-sponsored thuggery and/or adventurism by police and military forces. It also seeks social justice for the unemployed youth in the country.

“We will meet at the Jubilee House to present a petition to the President of the Republic,;to the Inspector General of Police at the Police head office and the Speaker of Parliament at Parliament House.”

Party willing to meet with Police

The Party further indicated that it is willing to meet with the Ghana Police Service;for further discussions on the subject matter.

The party’s plan to protest follows the unfortunate killing of some citizens by some;military personnel after some youths in Ejura took to the streets to express their displeasure at the murder of acclaimed;#FixTheCountry campaigner identified as Ibrahim Mohammed, popularly known as Kaaka.

The murder and the unfortunate killing of the Youth in Ejura has;over the past few days received intense backlash from the public and some stakeholders. While some are of the view that the method employed by the security personnel was not right,;others are also of the view that the behavior of the youth resulted in this happening.

NPC condemns Ejura violence

That notwithstanding,;the National Peace Council (NPC) has condemned the incident of violence which resulted in the death of two people and four others sustaining injuries in Ejura in the Ashanti Region.

The Chairman of the Council, Dr. Ernest Adu Gyamfi, also called for a thorough and immediate investigations into the matter. Also

“The attention of the National Peace Council has been drawn to;the shooting incident reported to have taken place in the Ashanti Region on Tuesday 29 June, 2021.

“The council express grave concern that three Ghanaians have lost their lives in this violent incident. The council condemns the unfortunate incident and calls on the relevant agencies to conduct thorough investigation into the matter without delay.”

The Council further called on the media and other stakeholders to exercise maximum restraint in their pronouncement on the issue which has currently become the topic of discussion in the country.
