A total of eighty-four out of ninety-two aspiring candidates who pick nomination forms have successfully filed to contest the New Patriotic Party parliamentary primaries within twenty-two constituencies in the Eastern Region.
A statement issued by Anthony Osei–Adjei, the Regional Secretary of the party revealed that out of the eighty-four candidates who successfully filed their nominations to contest the parliamentary primaries in the region, there were only ten females as against seventy-four males.
There are also seventeen candidates who fall within the youth category out of the eighty-four aspiring candidates in the Eastern region indicating the emergence of youth participation in the party’s parliamentary elections in the region.
A careful study of the list of candidates who are aspiring to the party’s parliamentary primaries on January 27 2024 also revealed that the Abeti Member of Parliament, Honorable Bryan Acheampong and Frederick Obeng Adom, the Member of Parliament for Upper West Akim are going unopposed.
However, in Abuakwa North Constituency, four candidates comprising Nana Ampaw Kwame Addo-Frempong, Palgrave Boakye-Danquah, Dr Kofi Obeng-Mensah and Emmanuel Bediako Mamfe are challenging the incumbent Member of Parliament, Honorable Gifty Twum-Ampofo in a very competitive bid.
Again, in the Abuakwa South Constituency, the contest is between Dr. Kingsley Agyemang, the Registrar of the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat and Gloria Ofori-Boadu as the incumbent Member of Parliament, Lawyer Samuel Atta-Kyea voluntarily exits Parliament.
Meanwhile, the incumbent Member of Parliament for Akyem Achiase Constituency, Hon Kofi Ahenkorah Marfo is facing a fierce contest from four candidates including George Niako, Samuel Okyere Donkor, Emmanuel Kwabena Brako and Adom Biamah Benedicta.
Again, the Controller and Accountant General of Ghana, Kwasi Kwaning Bosompem and Akordor Jerome Kwame are both seeking to unseat the incumbent Member of Parliament in Akyem Swedru Constituency, Hon Kennedy Osei Nyarko to represent the New Patriotic Party in the 2024 general elections.
In Akyem Oda Constituency, the Hon Alexander Akwasi Acquah, the incumbent Member of Parliament is being contested by Dennis Obeng Agyei, a Product Marketing Lead at Wi-flix Ghana Institute of Journalism in Accra and the former Assembly Member of Oda Nkwanta Electoral Area in the Birim Central Municipality.
Also, in Asene Manso Akroso Constituency, the Chief Executive Officer of Power Hydraulics Limited and the current chairman of the cashew Buyers and Exporters Association of Ghana, Alex Owusu Adjei is seeking to unseat the incumbent Member of Parliament, Hon George Kwame Aboagye.
Furthermore, in Akuapem South Constituency, the current Member of Parliament Hon Osei Bonsu Amoah is fiercely challenged by four aspirants including Kwame Ofori-Gyau, Eric Samuel Annor-Mensah, Eric Yeboah Apeadu and Frank Aidoo.
Moreover, in Atiwa East four candidates including the incumbent Member of Parliament, Hon Abena Osei-Asare and Eric Ofori Agyarko, Frank Baning and Ernest Adade Wiredu are seeking to represent the New Patriotic Party in the 2024 general elections while in Atiwa West Constituency, the incumbent Member of Parliament Ntiamoah Kingsley Ofosu is facing competition from three other candidates including Laurette Korkor Asante, Samuel Awuah Danquah and Prince Benjamin Aboagye.
Again, Fanteakwa South has five candidates vying for the seat, including the incumbent, Hon Kofi Okyere Agyekum, Joseph Nana Akomeah, Louisa Boakye, Abdul Razak Mohammed, and Duke Ofori-Atta while Fanteakwa North features four candidates competing against the incumbent, Hon Kwabena Amankwa Assiamah. Kwame Appiah Kodua, Rev Dr David Twum Antwi, Gabriel Kese-Yeboah, and Barbara Makara-Maccugen hope to represent the constituency.
The New Juaben North Constituency also sees Hon Seth Kwame Acheampong, the incumbent, being challenged by Nana Osei Adjei, Joseph Osei Djaba, Philip Twum Yeboah, and Sampson Kwesi Annor while New Juaben South sees the incumbent, Hon Michael Okyere Baafi, facing competition from Ruth Yaa Ansaa Safori.
Moreso, Andrews Ameyaw and David Boateng Asante are competitors of Hon. Joseph Frimpong in the Nkawkaw Constituency.
The incumbent Member of Parliament in Nsawam/Adoagyiri, Hon. Frank Annoh-Dompreh, is up for challenge from Hayford Siaw and David Adu-Tutu Jr.
In another hotly contested seat, Ofoase-Ayirebi, three candidates are running together with the Information Minister and the Incumbent Member of Parliament Hon. Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah. The other two are Maxwell Osei-Gyamerah and Eric Owusu-Mensah who are both seeking to unseat the incumbent lawmaker.
Five candidates are running for the parliamentary seat in Okere including Emmanuel Kwaku Adjei-Lartey, Charles Budu Okraku, Godfred Atua Addo, Kofi Bekoe, and Daniel Nana Addo-Kenneth.
In Abirem, Frank Ahimah-Mireku, Daniel Kwadwo Afrifa, and Charles Asuaka Owiredu are vying for the electorate’s support against incumbent Hon. John Frimpong Osei.
Hon. Charles Acheampong, the current representative for Lower West Akim, is facing opposition from Ladamu Abdulai, Kwabena Sintim-Aboagye, Kwadwo Odame Antwi, and Grace Akosua Amoabeng.
Mpraeso observes Dr Emmanuel Yaw Twerefour Dasrfo challenging the sitting member, Hon. Davis Ansah Opoku, for the parliamentary seat.
For the parliamentary seat in Kade, Hon. Alexander Agyare, the incumbent, will compete against Eric Ntiri-Mensah, Asare Gifty Obeyaa, Patrick Darkwa Asomaning, and Kofi Ntow Kwaning.
Frank Asiedu Bekoe and Hon. Kwadwo Asante are contesting for the position of constituency representative in Suhum.
The parliamentary primaries of the New Patriotic Party are slated on January 27 2024.
