The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced that it is awaiting the disbursement of additional funds from the Ministry of Education to facilitate critical post-examination activities.

According to WAEC, an outstanding balance of GH¢118 million is yet to be released, part of which is needed to repair essential scanners used in processing examination scripts.

The council emphasized that the scanning process is a crucial step in its post-examination workflow, enabling the timely processing, marking, and release of examination results.

WAEC expressed concern that any further delay in funding could disrupt these processes, potentially affecting the timely release of results.

“The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), on August 5, 2024, commenced the administration of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination for School Candidates, 2024. The examination successfully ended on Friday, September 20, 2024”.

Accordingly, the council called on the Ministry of Education to expedite the release of the funds to ensure a smooth and uninterrupted post-examination process, which is vital to maintaining the integrity and efficiency of Ghana’s examination system.

WAEC further disclosed that the marking of essay papers and other practical components officially commenced on Friday, November 7, 2024, and concluded on Friday, November 29, 2024.

This phase of the examination process is critical as it involves the thorough assessment and grading of candidates’ written responses and practical assignments.

WAEC emphasized that the marking process is conducted under strict supervision to ensure accuracy, fairness, and consistency in the evaluation of students’ work.

The completion of this phase signifies a major milestone in the overall examination timeline, paving the way for subsequent activities such as the collation of marks, result verification, and the final release of results.

WAEC assured stakeholders, including students, parents, and schools, that it remains committed to upholding the integrity and efficiency of the examination process.

WAEC Urges Public to Ignore False Result Dates Amid Scanning Delays

Furthermore, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) acknowledged that the scanning of objective answer sheets, which was originally scheduled to take place from November 1 to November 30, 2024, has not been completed.

According to the council, this delay is due to a malfunction in the scanners used for the process.

WAEC noted that the delay has hindered the timely progression of the examination results processing, affecting the overall post-examination activities.

“The Council wishes to appeal to its cherished examination officials and suppliers to exercise restraint as payment for their services will be made as soon as the needed funds are released from the Ministry of Education”.

Accordingly, the council has urged the public to disregard any information circulating on social media that claims to be official release dates for the examination results.

It emphasized that such information is not credible, as it has not been confirmed by WAEC, and should not be trusted.

The council reassured the public that official updates would be provided through appropriate channels.

WAEC further clarified that the examination results will be made available once the ongoing challenges with the post-examination processes are resolved.

The council assured the public that efforts are underway to address the issues promptly and that the results will be released through official channels as soon as the necessary procedures are completed.

WAEC attributed the delay in the release of results to insufficient funds required for necessary repairs and the completion of various operational activities.

The council explained that a lack of financial resources has hindered the smooth continuation of critical post-examination processes, including repairs to essential equipment and the completion of other administrative tasks.

WAEC emphasized that these challenges are being actively addressed and that the release of results will proceed as soon as the necessary funding and operations are in place.

The council also emphasized its commitment to ensuring a smooth and timely release of the results.
