Member of Parliament for Bortianor- Ngleshie Amanfro, Sylvester Tetteh, has disclosed that New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearer aspirant, Alan Kyerematen, will diagnose and interrogate issues that are inimical to the party’s chances of winning in the 2024 general elections.
According to him, the NPP has been in power for eight years and breaking the eight is a “tall order” as it hasn’t happened before under the fourth republic. Nonetheless, he indicated that it is doable.
“I’m convinced beyond everything that Alan will be our next flagbearer but we will do so without intimidation. We will diagnose and interrogate the issues that are so inimical to NPP’s chances in 2024. We are going to lay the issues bare and if you are a delegate, this is an inner introspection. The issues people are pushing, [they] don’t talk about it, and these are issues that will be so inimical to NPP’s chances.”

Mr Tetteh revealed that Alan Kyerematen has scheduled to meet delegates in the Greater Accra region this week. He stated that Mr Kyerematen has turned the meeting into a “family durbar” where all and sundry will speak about issues.
However, he cautioned that if anyone has been given a role to come and record and circulate discussions held at the meeting, it is meant for internal consumption.
“… These conversations are limited to NPP fraternity, we will say them as it is without disrespect to anybody. We have a legacy in Nana Addo’s administration to protect, we won’t allow anybody to use Nana Addo’s legacy and administration, his authority, to undermine our future chances. Anybody hoping that we will be cowed into submission by fear of power, that person is mistaken. As for the issues, we will interrogate them…”

Delegates urged to vote for the right person
Furthermore, Mr Tetteh noted that delegates who will be in attendance must understand the reason why some 220, 000 people are going to elect a flagbearer for the NPP. He explained that the flagbearer is to lead the party’s support base of over five million and subsequently appeal to the larger Ghanaian population to retain the current government.
“So, it goes beyond you as a delegate [and] your choice… Who has what it takes in the face of all the difficulties we are going through today, will be able to attract the vote for us? So, that is the surgical operation we are embarking on…”

Elaborating on today’s meeting, the Bortianor-Ngleshie Amanfro legislator highlighted that due to the busy schedule of Mr Kyerematen, his interactions with delegates in various constituencies will be undertaken in clusters.
He emphasized that the NPP flagbearer aspirant needs time to do other things, while ensuring he meets everybody.
“The truth is that we are putting two to three constituencies into clusters and people should know it wouldn’t be an extra cost to any aspirant coming to the centre. We are paying fully for the transportation and the movement of any constituency joining the centre. The first is starting at Liberty Park where Ablekuma Central, Ablekuma North and Ablekuma West are meeting…”

Also, Mr Tetteh revealed that the second meeting will be with Ayawaso East, North and Central. He stated that the three constituencies will be meeting at the Kawukudi AstroTurf.
“… The last one, Ododioodio, Korley-Klottey and Ablekuma South are also meeting at the Boxing arena in Bukom. So, clearly these are meetings he is doing today and he will continue to Friday where he will climax his entire campaign in Bortianor-Ngleshie Amanfro where two constituencies will be meeting.”
