When Embarking On National Developments, Don’t Sideline People Who Didn’t Vote For Us- Mahama

Former President John Dramani Mahama.

Former President John Dramani Mahama has expressed the need for governments to ensure continuity once they come to office and also resolve to undertake developmental projects left off by their predecessors in the country.

He revealed that it was pointless for the current government to abandon the Abetifi Government Hospital project which he started prior to leaving office.

The former President who began the final day of a 3-day tour of the Eastern Region in preparation of the party’s internal elections with his visit to the Mpraeso and Abetifi Constituencies questioned why the government used monies of hardworking Ghanaians to carry out a project only for it to be left to waste away.

Addressing branch and constituency executives today, April 13, 2023, Mr. Mahama revealed that some persons have resorted to stealing some materials intended for the hospital construction, describing the situation as disappointing.

“When embarking on national developments, we shouldn’t sideline people who didn’t vote for us. We should all enjoy the national cake. The selective system where some regions have more infrastructural developments than others must stop. Our [NDC] work speaks for itself here, but what saddens me which is making it difficult for me to sleep is the first class Abetifi Government Hospital we couldn’t complete before leaving office. The government has abandoned the hospital to rot. I even heard that scrap dealers have been taking some of the metals for sale. It’s a very sad situation”.

Mr Mahama stated that the money he used to start the construction of the hospital was not his but rather that of the state which the current government should have taken into cognisance. He explained that it doesn’t make sense that the project has been abandoned to fall apart.

“The situation is happening in other regions as well and not only Kwahu. Because they didn’t vote for the government, similar projects we started during my government have all been abandoned.”

On his part, the Eastern Regional Chairman of the NDC, Dr. Mark Oliver Kevor, challenged the incumbent party, the NPP, not to hand over power back to the NDC. He indicated that the leadership of the NPP are already aware that they have lost the 2024 elections.

To this end, he urged NDC supporters to vote massively for former President John Mahama to win the primaries.

“Some of the major projects in Kwahu are his handiworks. First asphalt road in Kwahu was constructed by former President Mahama. The NPP knows that they have lost the 2024 general elections already. We will not allow anyone to intimidate us. Those blabbing that they will hold onto power are just bluffing because they know that their properties will be affected when there’s chaos in the country. They don’t mean it, they fear, don’t be deceived, we don’t know anybody apart from former President Mahama.”

Meanwhile, the former President has revealed that all branch executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) are going to be trained by the school established by the party.

Mr Mahama explained that it is not enough for one to say he is an NDC executive. To this end, he indicated that the training would centre on the history of the party, what it stands for, the revolutionary idealogy, and also the founding Father, the late former President Jerry John Rawlings.

“We are going to train all of you, it is not enough to say you are an NDC executive, you must understand what the party stands for. All the branch executives will attend the party’s school. The school will be in every region and train all the party executives and teach them the history of the party…”
