The Director of Communication of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Mr. Henry Asante Twum, has disclosed that over 2,000 Ghanaian residents in Qatar have registered their intension to be present at the stadium on Thursday November 24, to cheer the players on.
According to him, Ghanaians residents in Qatar have already demonstrated their love for the Black Stars ahead of their first match against Portugal.
The Black Stars of Ghana are scheduled to play with their Portuguese counterparts on Thursday, November 24, 2022 in the World Cup tournament which started in Qatar on Sunday, November 20.
“There are about 2200 Ghanaian fans who are resident here. Majority of them will be at the stadium when we take on the Portuguese on Thursday.
“I am told there are about 1200 fans being flown in from Accra to Doha as well. So we are expecting not less than 2500 fans here.”

Here in Ghana, the love for the national team seems to be uplifting after their win over Switzerland in a recent friendly match.
According to him, due to the team’s lacklustre performance in recent times, there was an air of uncertainty about its chances against Portugal.
Mr. Twum assured Ghanaians that the players have been prepared enough to play with renowned players like Ronaldo among others in the world cup.
Blacks Stars Ready for Match Against Portugal
Henry Asante Twum stated that the team is in exuberance ahead of its World Cup match against Portugal. He disclosed that following the team’s victory over Switzerland in its last friendly encouter, the morale of the boys has seen a significant boost.
The GFA Spokesperson noted that, after defeating Switzerland in Abu Dhabi last Thursday November 17, the players have picked up the needed inspiration to face the Portuguese at the Stadium 974 in Qatar on Thursday November 24.
“Everything is on course, we do not have any cause for alarm. All the players are in good condition; all of them are fully fit.
“They have been training since we started camping and I can say that based on what I’ve seen, we have 3 more days to continue our preparations for the first game against Portugal, and we will be very ready for that encounter.”

The 2022 FIFA World Cup kicked off on Sunday afternoon in Qatar with an opening fixture between host nation, Qatar and the Tricolors of Ecuador which ended with two goals to nil against the host nation.
