“Anytime the act begins, you are not ready for it. But during the act, you consent to it”

Ghanaian self-acclaimed counselor turned rape apologist, George Lutterodt

Ghanaian counselor turned rape apologist, George Lutterodt has made a shocking claim about rape victims.

The self-professed ‘counsellor’ George Lutterodt made the infamous statement on a television show yesterday. Leaving many wondering if he drank a keg of apeteshie (a local Ghanaian gin) before coming on the show.

 Rape pandemic in Ghana

Currently, in Ghana, victims of rape, sexual assault, and defilement have to pay between 300-800 GHS ($45 – $160) depending on the exchange rate) to undergo a medical examination and get a report for police to do necessary investigates. In Ghana, the average reported monthly salary in the informal sector is 150 GHS (between $25 – $30).

Sign the petition to  Abolish Medical Examination Fees For All Victims of Rape And Sexual Assault in Ghana.

In light of this, a disproportionate number of victims in Ghana and their families are unable to seek criminal justice due to financial constraints. The medical examination for rape and sexual assault should be free for all victims.
