US President, Donald Trump has in Truth Social post lauded the deployment of the National Guard in Los Angeles.
He claimed that the city would have been “completely obliterated” otherwise. “We made a great decision in sending the National Guard to deal with the violent, instigated riots in California,” he stated.
He also referred to California Governor Gavin Newsom as “Newscum”, perhaps attempting to appropriate the trend of taunting nicknames that has been directed towards the President.

“The very incompetent “Governor,” Gavin Newscum, and “Mayor,” Karen Bass, should be saying, “THANK YOU, PRESIDENT TRUMP, YOU ARE SO WONDERFUL. WE WOULD BE NOTHING WITHOUT YOU, SIR.
“Instead, they choose to lie to the People of California and America by saying that we weren’t needed, and that these are “peaceful protests.” Just one look at the pictures and videos of the Violence and Destruction tells you all you have to know. We will always do what is needed to keep our Citizens SAFE, so we can, together, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

Later, after inspecting a site on the White House lawn for a future flagpole, Trump spoke to reporters about the protests in California. “I like Gavin Newsom, he’s a nice guy, but he’s grossly incompetent,” the US President said.
He complained about “the little railroad he’s building” that is “100 times over budget.”
It’s a reference to the much-delayed high-speed rail project, which predates Newsom’s tenure. Trump also criticized the protestors.
“The people that are causing these problems are professional agitators, they’re insurrectionists, they’re bad people. They should be in jail.”

Also, White House Press Secretary, Karoline Leavitt accused Gavin Newsom of being “weak” and standing by as government officials were attacked during protests.

In a post on X, she claimed the California Governor “did nothing as violent riots erupted in Los Angeles for days.”
Federal law enforcement officers were “attacked by violent radicals and illegal criminals”, she added, alleging that Newsom was “too weak to protect the city”
“The Los Angeles Police Chief has even said the riots were getting out of hand,” she said, claiming the Trump “stepped in” to maintain law and order.
Schumer Calls Trump’s National Guard Deployment Unnecessary

Sen. Chuck Schumer said in a statement, “Donald Trump—in the midst of a war with Elon Musk and his ugly tax bill that would rip healthcare from 17 million people— is in desperate need of a diversion.”
“His order to deploy the National Guard in California is unnecessary, inflammatory, and provocative. Trump should immediately revoke his command to use the National Guard, and leave the law enforcement to the Governor and the Mayor, who are more than capable of handling the situation.
“Americans do not need or deserve this unnecessary and provocative chaos.”

Also, the Steady State, a nonpartisan coalition of more than 280 former national security professionals, condemned the “inappropriate and incendiary actions” of Donald Trump and the “inflammatory” statements of Pete Hegseth, the Defence Minister over the deployment of the National Guard in Los Angeles, which it calls “an alarming escalation in federal posture.”
In a statement, the group said that the use of federal military force in the absence of local or state requests, paired with contradictory mandates targeting protestors, is a “hallmark of authoritarian drift.”
Urging all public officials to speak out against the administration’s actions, it warned that this moment “is a critical step towards autocracy,” adding, “Silence or acquiescence would be a grave error.”
