Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia has disclosed that government has initiated some 17, 334 infrastructural project since it assumed office in 2017.
According to Dr. Bawumia, the move is in resonance with the administration of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) promise of ratifying infrastructure competence of the country as stipulated in the party’s manifesto in the lead-up to the 2016 election.
He made these comments at the Government Result Fair at the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences in Accra.
Dr. Bawumia said, “we have completed 8,746 and 8,588 are ongoing”.
He rationalized that these projected were in agriculture, education, energy, health, housing, industrial, market, railway, and road safety and security, youth and development infrastructure.
Dr. Bawumia further stressed on the government’s commitment in ensuring the even distribution of resources to some remote communities and as a result, many of these projects had been cited across the breadth of the country.
He described it as a broad base wide-scale infrastructure taking place in every district rather than having a few big infrastructure projects localized in a few cities in the country.
The Vice President in a similar vein, announced an online portal that serves as a database to track all developmental projects currently under construction, courtesy the NPP administration.
“To enable all Ghanaians to have access to and interrogate the data that we have put together, we are putting all this data on the website known as the www.deliverytracker.gov.gh. That’s the website address. This is a novelty. The infrastructure data when you get to this address can be obtained either by sectors like education, health, agriculture, and the rest. You can also search by region specifics as well or you can go by districts. So everything can be found on this website.
“It will enhance transparency and accountability in governance. It will also enable the government to ensure that uncompleted projects are prioritised in the process of capital budget. The portal is a living portal so it is going to be regularly updated.”
If it comes to just infrastructure, anybody can build it – Bawumia
Meanwhile, Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia also highlighted that government is focused on the holistic development of the country, touting the Akufo-Addo administration’s infrastructural projects around the country.
According to him, the numerous infrastructure projects initiated by the NPP administration since its assumption of office in 2017 has been possible, even while catering to the other essential needs of the average citizenry.
“If it comes to just infrastructure, anybody can build it. We’re not just building infrastructure. We’re building a nation,” Dr. Bawumia said.
Dr. Bawumia explained that the implementation of major social intervention programmes alongside the ongoing projects give credence to the NPP’s commitment to enhancing the country’s development drive.
“We’re building all this infrastructure while staying committed to providing Free Senior High School Education, creating jobs, transforming agriculture, industrializing the economy, sustaining the National Health Insurance Scheme, digitizing the economy and ensuring public safety of Ghanaians and keeping the lights on.”
