The Idea Of Parallel Government Treasonable- Adib Saani

Security Analyst, Adib Saani

Foreign Policy and Security Analyst, Adib Saani, has intimated that, conceiving the idea of forming a parallel government is treasonable.

Speaking during an interview on the suggestion made by the Member of Parliament from his security perspective, he said that, the idea of a parallel government is very dangerous and he is expecting the Minister to apologize for such a suggestion.

His comment comes on the back of, the former Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Inusah Fuseini’s advice to the former President John Dramani Mahama to declare himself president and form a parallel government although the Electoral Commission said he lost to the incumbent President Akufo-Addo, stating that, it would serve as a catalyst for power returning to the party.

Mr. Adib Saani also stated that, if the NDC is not satisfied or will not accept the results, it will be better they go to court or to refrain and prepare for the next election.

He further said that, for some of the citizens to result to violence does not speak well of the countries democratic dispensation in the 21st century.

“I am so pained because Ghana is a shining example to so many African countries not just within the African continent but even beyond.”

Touching on results delay with regards to this election, he said that, he has some misgivings about the collation and further posited that, since its constituency based, once it bulks up it creates some form of misgiving.

He elaborated further that, the more time elections results take to come, the more contentious it becomes. He said these situations gives the loosing party more room to begin their funny antics and also give some people enough room to start putting out false information, which influences the people’s idea about the whole electoral process.

Speaking on the Electoral Commission’s decision to announce the results in 24- hours, he stated that the decision was a very wise judgement although unforeseen circumstances prevented it.

He further said that, although it was good, the public should have at least had an information of the results before the main announcement.

Touching on security, he said that, compared to some African countries, Ghana has an issue of lack of confidence in state institutions.

He revealed that, on an unprecedented scale, a lot more Ghanaians are buying weapons because they think they cannot count on state institutions to protect them.

Highlighting on the post elections for Ghana, he stated that, the nation lacked a post-election strategy. He added that, all safety mechanisms put in place were all geared towards pre-elections and not the aftermath and attributed the flaw to the reason for the occurrence of some violent activities across the country.

Dr. Kweku Rockson, Dean of School of Communication, Wisconsin University College also adding his voice to the discussion said, the current post election happenings are tensed and he is hoping it doesn’t escalate.

Talking on the banter between the critical actors of the critical political actors, he said regardless of the party, every political party should act hand in hand with the electoral commission to bring about a resolution.

He further said walks, gatherings and offering of advises from various political parties should not be encouraged but rather the parties should look to resolving the post-election issues.

He said the nation and as well as the political parties must make efforts in calming things and seeking for peace because the situation is containable.
