EPL Review: Liverpool beat Arsenal 3-0 to strengthen top-four bid

Liverpool celebrate Salah goal

A dominant Liverpool beat Arsenal 3-0 at the Emirates to strengthen their bid for a top-four finish.

James Milner missed the best chance of a dominant but goalless first half for Liverpool, who started the game on the front-foot.

The reds, however, made the breakthrough in the second half, taking the lead through substitute Diogo Jota. The forward leapt up to nod the ball home from a superb Trent Alexander-Arnold cross in the 60th minute.

Mohamed Salah made it 2-0 four minutes later after dispossessing Gabriel in the box before slotting through Bernd Leno’s legs. Jota then completed the scoring with his second goal of the game, following a brilliant team move.

The result means Liverpool are now just two points behind fourth-placed Chelsea with eight games remaining.

Leicester 0-2 Man City

Manchester City continued their march towards the Premier League title with a 2-0 win over Leicester at the King Power Stadium.

Man City were completely dominant in every area but the scoreline stayed goalless in the first half.

The champions elect deservedly took the lead shortly after halftime through Benjamin Mendy. The defender showed a lot of composure to coolly curl the ball home, after a smart turn in the box.

Pep Guardiola’s side wrapped up the win through Gabriel Jesus, who exchanged passes with Raheem Sterling before converting at close range.

The result means Man City are a maximum of 11 points away from securing the premier league title.

Manchester United 2-1 Brighton

Manchester United came from behind to beat Brighton 2-1 at Old Trafford with a spirited second half display.

The Seagulls took the lead in the first half, with Danny Welbeck heading them into a deserved lead against his former club.

Marcus Rashford restored parity with his 19th goal of the season in the second half with a brilliant finish after a Bruno Fernandes assist.

Greenwood then completed the comeback with a diving header with seven minutes remaining. The result comes as a relief for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, whose side cemented their place in second on 60 points.

Chelsea 2-5 West Brom

Matheus Pereira and Callum Robinson scored twice to help struggling West Brom win 5-2 at 10-man Chelsea.

The home side, looking to consolidate their top-four position in the table, went ahead after 27 minutes thanks to Christian Pulisic’s close-range finish after Marcos Alonso’s free kick hit the post.

However, the match was turned on its head by Thiago Silva’s red card, after picking up two bookings in the opening 30 minutes.

Pereira’s clever lob brought West Brom level in first-half stoppage time, before his low finish gave them a half-time lead.

Substitute, Robinson volleyed home a third goal in the 63rd minute before Mbaye Diagne added a fourth for the Baggies.

Chelsea substitute, Mason Mount immediately replied for Chelsea but Robinson was on hand to put icing on the cake for West Brom with a late fifth.

Newcastle 2-2 Tottenham

Newcastle secured a 2-2 draw against Tottenham, with Spurs missing the chance to go fourth.

Newcastle dominated the opening proceeding and they deservedly went ahead when Joelinton fired home.

However, the lead was short-lived as Kane bundled in the equalizer less than two minutes later. The Tottenham striker then scored a second not long after, to send them into the break with a 2-1 lead.

Kane spurned a golden chance to wrap up the three points and his hat-trick when he clipped the post. Arsenal loanee, Joe Willock punished him for the miss, finding the net via the underside of the crossbar two minutes later.

Southampton 3-2 Burnley

Southampton came from 2-0 down to beat Burnley 3-2 at the St Mary’s in a spirited display.

The visitors raced into a 2-0 lead thanks to Chris Wood’s 12th-minute penalty and Matej Vydra’s well-taken goal.

However, the Saints drew level before half-time through Stuart Armstrong’s fine strike and Danny Ings’ wonderful solo goal.

Nathan Redmond completed the turnaround in the second half with a wonderful volley, to hand the Saints all three points.

Aston Villa 3-1 Fulham

Aston Villa scored three late goals in nine minutes to beat Fulham 3-1 at Villa Park.

After a goal-shy first half, the game sparked into life when Tyrone Mings’ fluffed backpass allowed Aleksandar Mitrovic to open the scoring for Fulham.

But Trezeguet, subbed on directly after Mitrovic’s goal, turned the game on its head with two goals in three minutes. The first was a cool finish from Mings’ cross before converting at the back post from Keinan Davis’ delivery.

Watkins rounded off the win with a close-range finish from Bertrand Traore’s cross to give Villa all three points

Leeds 2-1 Sheffield Utd

Leeds moved into the Premier League top half with a 2-1 win over Sheffield United at Elland Road.

The hosts took the lead through Jack Harrison’s 12th-minute tap-in after good build-up from Raphinha.

However, against the run of play, Oli McBurnie’s shot was turned in at the back post by Ben Osborn just before the halftime whistle.

Four minutes after halftime, Harrison aimed a whipped ball across the six-yard box only for Sheffield’s Jagielka to turn it into his own goal.

The result means Leeds move up to 10th on the table. On the other hand, the Blades are now two games from relegation.
