Continue bearing with power service providers- Energy Minister

The Energy Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has once again appealed to Ghanaians to continue to bear with the power service providers on the outages.

In a social media post by the Minister, he urged citizens, especially those affected to patient with the power service providers as they strive to fix the situation.  He indicated that the erratic power supply is still as a result of the ongoing system upgrade works.  

“In my remarks to the media after the tour, I indicated that the current power outage situation in parts of the country is as a result of upgrading the power systems to meet our growing power needs.

“I trust that, Ghanaians will continue to bear with the power service providers as they strive to keep to the barest minimum the inconveniences while maintenance works progresses.”

His statement comes after he paid a working visit to the Pokuase Bulk Supply Point which is currently under construction.  He revealed that his visit was to gather first hand information on ongoing works at the site.

Touching on the construction project, he disclosed that the project after completion will improve power supply.

“This morning, I was joined by the Minister for Information, Hon. Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah and officials from MiDA, GRIDCo and ECG to inspect the progress of the Pokuase Bulk Supply Point (BSP) currently under construction.

“This project which commenced 18 months ago is the 5th BSP in Accra. Its completion would improve the quality and reliability of power supply in Legon, Pokuase, Nsawam, Kwabenya and its environs.”

Prior to his visit, he entreated all Ghanaians in the affected areas to be patient. He said the issue relating to the current power situation was being addressed and will ultimately be resolved. Further

ECG announces planned load shedding  

Meanwhile, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced a planned load shedding exercise. This exercise will take place from May 10 to 17, 2021 within some areas in Accra.

Chief Executive Officer of ECG, Kwame Agyeman Budu,;speaking after a media tour of the Pokuase Bulk Supply Point, said four major areas within the Greater Accra Region;would have their power supply interrupted. Also,

“We are coming up with a planned schedule for the areas that are going to be affected. The areas have been grouped into four. It has been scheduled in such a way that no single customer will see the outage throughout for eight days. They will see probably 12 hours outage in the day time; the next three days they will experience the outage in the night time. It will be rotated.”

According to ECG, some of the areas include Nsawam, Pokuase, and other communities. The eight-day exercise, he said, has become necessary;due to ongoing works at the Pokuase Bulk Supply Point. Also,

Also, the Technical Controller at the Millennium Development Authority(MiDA), Engineer William Amuna,;says hs outfit is expecting the Pokuase Bulk supply point project to be fully operational by August 2021. so,
