MoFA urges Participants and Exhibitors to register for 2021 Pre-Harvest Exhibitions

Dr. Owusu-Afriyie-Akoto - Ministry of Food and Agriculture

The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) has urged individuals and groups interested in participating in this year’s Annual Pre-Harvest Agribusiness and Exhibitions to register as soon as possible via its online platform.  The 11th Annual Pre-Harvest Agribusiness and Exhibitions is slated for 19th to 21st October 2021 at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale.

The three-day leading Agribusiness market linkage conference and exhibitions event will bring together players within the agriculture value-chain and seeks to provide opportunities for buyers and sellers to transact.  It will provide a platform for buyers of grains who are interested in buying in large or commercial quantities to establish direct links with farmers or suppliers.

More specifically, the event will make room for a farmer-buyer platform where farmers of various commodities, including maize, rice, millet, sorghum, soyabeans, cowpea, cashew, shea, among others will meet, negotiate and sign supply deals with buyers.

The event will also accord individuals and groups who wish to meet, negotiate and sign deals with farmers, fertilizer, seeds, irrigation, tractor and equipment, transport, ICT, finance and processing companies the opportunity to meet these service providers.

The theme for this year’s event is ‘Working Together to Improve Market Channels for Agri-foods Beyond the Pandemic’.

Training and Capacity session

The Ministry of Food and Agriculture stated that as part of the Training and Capacity session, it will highlight and address the challenges the COVID-19 pandemic has intensified within the sector.  There will also be a discussion on the impacts of the pandemic on marketing of Agri-foods while exploring existing market channels to address these challenges.

In a release, the Executive Director of Agrihouse Foundation, Alberta Nana Akyaa Akosa, said “the Pre-harvest event, over the past years, had created and connected companies that were into fertilizers, seeds, irrigation, machinery and equipment among others”.

Ms. Akyaa said, in 2020, 122 companies registered and participated in the exhibitions. The Executive Director of Agrihouse Foundation expects this year’s event to be an improvement over the previous years’.

“This year’s Pre-Harvest event will not come short in playing its role in facilitating farmers and agro-processors to access opportunities to expand their growth potentials and build new partnerships. We have a strong team with the capacity to ensure that”.
