NPP Party Executives Not Engaging- Dr. Amoako Baah

Political Scientist, Dr. Richard Amoako Baah

Political Scientist, Dr. Richard Amoako Baah, has intimated that three years is long enough for the NPP to change certain things in order to win the elections.

According to Dr. Amoako Baah, there are several issues with which the public have openly expressed concerns and an improvement in such areas will give the party the chance to win the election.

“Three years is a long time to change certain things but if the NPP is able to change things, starting with corruption and people see it’s improvement, all that deficiencies the NDC would be able to punch holes in, will be gone out of the window.”

Dr. Richard Amoako Baah

The Political Scientist advised both parties not to be complacent; however, act on what they can do to ensure that they turn things around for the good. “You have to have a programme of action and tell the entire nation what you’re going to do.” According to Dr. Baah, the aim of turning things around should be one of the reasons the NDC must introduce a new candidate.

Dr. Baah noted that it will be advisable for the NDC to get a new candidate because the nation knows what Mr. Mahama did during his governance regime.  He stated that there’s nothing new except that the people are looking at John Mahama because what they expected from Nana Addo, is not what they’ve gotten.

“But that doesn’t mean because he[Nana Addo] hasn’t performed to your standards, go back and take the one you voted to throw out of office. There are many people in the NDC, so why would you still present the same candidate; You want to bring him back to do what; Is this time going to be different from before?”

Dr. Richard Amoako Baah

The Political Scientist intimated that the current economic situation of the country is ten times worse than when John Mahama was leaving the office while he didn’t have solutions. “So, how is he going to manage this worse situation?”

Mahama’s candidacy to help NPP

Dr. Amoako Baah’s comments followed NPP Stalwart, Gabby Okyere Darko’s insinuation that John Mahama’s candidacy will help the NPP. According to him, Mahama will be the best candidate for the NDC but more so the best candidate for the NPP because voters will consider the performance of the NPP against John Mahama’s records.

“The former President has indicated his plans to run again but we expect the NDC to revitalize its prospects for a fresh candidate. Usually, we find a situation where after two terms a new government comes in.”

Gabby Okyere Darko

According to Gabby Okyere Darko, although the EIU report suggests the probability that the NDC will win the election is indirectly telling the NDC to change its flagbearer, he doubts that will happen.

“It’s so obvious that John Mahama is going to be their candidate. That’s for them to worry about because you stand a good chance of winning because there is incumbency fatigue. But the fatigue will not just be for the NPP because you [NDC] is coming back with the same candidate who has been rejected twice.”

Gabby Okyere Darko

Mr. Okyere Darko stated that he wasn’t surprised the content of the report because government has been facing hardships. However, John Mahama standing for the NDC in the election is an alternative less scary, as such, urged the NPP to focus on what matters, which is winning the election.
