Voting Flagbearer Two Years Ahead of Elections, Wrongly Targeted- Dr. Mensah

Political Strategist with the University of Ghana, Dr Kobby Mensah

Political Marketing Strategist, Dr. Kobby Mensah, has indicated that there seem to be some kind of frustration on the part of the government regarding the challenges being faced in the country.

According to Dr. Kobby Mensah, it looks like government has been overwhelmed with the issues and have resorted to some sort of fight back when approached on the matter at hand.

Reacting to the Senior Minister’s comment that Ghanaians are exaggerating the recent economic situation, he averred the ruling administration seems to see the people as an opposition party due to more of the citizens pointing out its flaws.

“There seems to be that type of fight back from senior members of the administration including the President. So to speak, NDC is almost quiet and it looks like the people are actually going after the government on quite a lot of things that they feel is wrong with the country.”

Dr. Kobby Mensah

According to Dr. Mensah, instead of government accepting the criticism and complains in good faith, government is rather throwing back punches which he thinks is very unfortunate. “From my political marketing perspective, that is not how you speak to your customer.”

“In any case, the politicians are the ones driving the SUVs, so if he has any advice, he rather has to tell those in government that you know what, park your SUVs so we can invest the money into sectors in the country but not to tell citizens that they should park their SUVs.”

There’s no point in fighting back

Dr. Kobby Mensah averred that some leadership have been talking about things that they are fixing as such, there is no point in fighting back like the Senior Minister and other leadership try to do. He stated that fighting back citizens when they complain will not help but rather exacerbate the anger that people feel.

“People genuinely are feeling the pressure and I am sure all of us are aware, especially with the recent flooding that is happening.”

Dr. Kobby Mensah

Dr. Mensah averred that the attitude of some senior leadership might go on to demonstrate that they are unconcerned about the challenges being faced. He said: “Because if you are concerned, you have to demonstrate empathy, you have to demonstrate that yes you are in their shoes but you do not actually go about throwing punches. I think that is not acceptable”.

The Political Strategist suggested to government to look into the way it communicates to the public on matters regarding the challenges being faced. He suggested that government may want to inject a lot more empathy and be in line with what citizens are saying and try to feel their pains too.

“They also have to demonstrate it in their doings. I mean, I would expect the President to actually instruct his people to stop the kind of V8’s they drive here and there and the sirens parading the streets. He needs to get them to symbolically demonstrate that indeed they are also feeling the pinch other than playing the extravagance here and there.”

Dr. Kobby Mensah

His comments came after the Senior Minister, Yaw Osafo stated that Ghanaians are exaggerating the current hardships being faced. According to him, Ghana is not the only country in the woods and perhaps if “we will all stop using our 4 wheel drives and live according to the scarcity, we could help conserve energy and make things better for the country”.
