The Deputy National Communications Director of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Ernest Owusu Bempah, has stated that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) demonstrated and confirmed its violence status after its just ended Women’s Organiser and National Youth Organiser congress held in Cape Coast over the weekend.

According to him, the party members demonstrated what former President John Mahama once said that, “when it comes to violence no party can beat the NDC to it because they come from a revolutionary background.”

Speaking in an interview, Mr. Bempah noted that the NDC used gunshots, blocks, sticks, insults among others to cause violence that disturbed the peace of the country.

“They are destroying the peace of this country. Just internal elections and they are killing themselves. They will turn around and unleash the same violence on Ghanaians.”

The Deputy National Communications Director noted that Ghanaians have now seen how violent the NDC is and can be, as such they shouldn’t be voted for to comeback into office.

Mr. Owusu Bempah further called on the Peace Council, opinion leaders and all peace stakeholders to ensure that peace prevails prior to the next election in 2024.

“I know in 2024 when Ghanaians reject them they will resort to violence. They are not an alternative party for the people of Ghana.”

The NDC Congress in Capecoast saw the re-election of George Opare Addo as National Youth Organiser and Madam Hannah Louisa Bissiw as the National Women’s Organiser.

Violence At NDC Internal Elections

While proceedings were ongoing at the Congress at Capecoast last Saturday December 10, two rival groups violently clashed throwing stones, blocks, sticks, clubs, chairs among others, causing injury to three persons and destruction to properties.

The intervention of the police brought the situation under control for the processes to continue to the end without any further incident.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has declared 16 people wanted following violent disturbances. The police released photographs of the 16 wanted persons extracted from the police specific-footages for the public to assist in arresting them.

A GH¢10,000 reward has been set aside for any member of the public who can provide credible information to the police that can lead to the arrest of any of the suspects. “Investigation is ongoing to further identify and arrest other perpetrators involved in the violence to face justice” the police noted.
