The Presbyterian Church of Ghana has disclosed that the latest reports about the resignation of the immediate past moderator of the Presbyterian Church, Rev. Professor Cephas Omenyo, from the National Cathedral Board of Trustees is misleading.

Speaking in an interview, the spokesperson for the Presbyterian Church, Rev. George Larbi revealed that the former Moderator resigned long ago due to ill-health.

“When he was elected, per his position as a moderator of the church, he was appointed a trustee of the National Cathedral. So, when he fell sick and could not function again and later on a new moderator was elected, in fact, he refused to be a member of the trustee.

“So, I remember I drew the attention of the public relations officer of the National Cathedral, that in this case they should take away Rev. Prof. Cephas Omenyo’s photo. Because, one of our former moderators, in the person of Very Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Martey already sits on the trustee. So, the current moderator is not even a member of the trustee because we already have Very. Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Martey there.”

The North Tongu MP, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, had claimed that the National Cathedral Secretariat was misleading the Ghanaian public and the world that all the published trustees are registered as directors.

“Contrary to the information provided in the said press statement (see page 5) and on the Nicodemusly updated national cathedral website (after we exposed the Pastor Otabil deception), to the effect that all the Board of Trustees has been registered as Directors of the National Cathedral of Ghana; we note surprisingly, that the venerable Bishop Dag Heward-Mills, Presiding Bishop of the Lighthouse Group of Churches and the esteemed Rev. Prof. Cephas Omenyo, Former Moderator of the Presbyterian Church were not registered as directors on the incorporation date of 18th July, 2019.

“The two revered clergymen have at all material times been clearly left out, and substituted with the following names: Samuel Antwi and Kingsley Ofosu Ntiamoah.”

We’re Giving Ablakwa’s Petition Needed attention

Meanwhile, The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) has assured the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa that his petition calling for investigations into some allocations made on the National Cathedral project is being given the needed attention.

Hon Ablakwa petitioned CHRAJ on Monday January 16, to investigate an alleged transfer of GH¢2.6million cash from the National Cathedral Secretariat to JNS Talent Centre Limited owned by the Secretariat’s secretary, Rev. Kusi-Boateng under a double identity, Kwabena Adu Gyamfi.

CHRAJ in a letter signed by its director, Anti Corruption, Stephen Azantilow, to acknowledge receipt of the petition noted that “I am directed to acknowledge receipt of your complaint on the above subject matter lodged with the Commission on the 16th of January 2023 and to inform you that it is receiving attention.”

The lawmaker, speaking after the submission of the petition indicated that he sought to invoke Article 218 of the Constitution to trigger CHRAJ to probe the odious conflict of interest by Rev.Victor Kusi-Boateng’s position as he “literally paid his own company a staggering GH¢2.6million for no work done.”

Hon Ablakwa also alleged that Rev. Kusi-Boateng who is also the founder of Power Chapel Worldwide, was also known as Kwabena Adu Gyamfi and had two different passports bearing these names. He also alleged that Rev. Kusi-Boateng registered the companies including: Y-CV Construction Ltd, Qharis Consortium Ltd, Kharis Football Academy FC Ltd, El Dunamis Media Limited, Onpoint 1 Laundry Ltd, Vibrant Generation Chapel Worldwide LBG, Dunamis Chapel Worldwide LBG, El-Dunamis Enterprise and Duna Media Foundation.

The MP, stated that some of the companies are engaged in illegal mining. He also wants to know the circumstances under which Rev. Kusi-Boateng was issued a diplomatic passport.

Rev. Kusi-Boateng together with the National Cathedral Secretariat have in separate statements, noted that they did nothing wrong.
