The Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) Plc, the country’s largest bank in terms of total operating assets and share of industry deposits, has opened a new branch at the University for Development Studies(UDS) at Dungu in the Northern region.

At the opening ceremony of the branch, Alhaji Mohammed Mipo, the Tamale Zone Regional Manager of the Ghana Commercial Bank PLC, disclosed that the new UDS branch of the GCB Bank Plc is the 20th of its kind to be opened within the five regions of the North and the 186th branch network.

Alhaji Mohammed guaranteed UDS and its neighbouring communities of the bank’s continuous commitment to ensure there is collaboration that will lead to further developments in the area.

Continuing the ceremony, John Adamah, the bank’s Executive Head of Retail Banking pointed out the role of the new branch is saving students and clients the time and resources spent in transportation out of campus to transact business in town on a regular basis.

Mr. Adamah assured UDS students and clients of their accountability, promising that their deposits will not be touched like they have heard has happened to government bonds in recent times.

“Bank deposits, Savings, Current, Fix Deposits among others are liabilities against the bank and do not constitute government debt to be restructured under a domestic exchange debt programme.

“Please feel free to bring your money to GCB because when you make a demand for it we will surely meet your demand.”

GCB Bank PLC is a reliable bank that ensures the safety and security of the funds of its valued clients, Mr. Adamah further buttressed.

“The success or failure of the GCB UDS branch shall depend on the level of patronage by key stakeholders. I plead with chiefs, management of UDS, and the UDS community to ensure that the decision of the bank to establish a branch here is vindicated through accelerated business growth. This is your branch and you must sustain it by doing business with it.”

The School’s Vice-Chancellor Thanks the Bank

Professor Seidu Al-Hassan, the Vice-Chancellor of the University for Development Studies(UDS) in responding to the kind gesture, thanked the GCB Bank Plc for coming to the rescue of students and other clients within the school locality by taking up the responsibility to establish a new branch on campus.

“You are opening this branch at the right time because the University has a student population of about 25,000 and a staff population of about 2,000 and we have established a new faculty in the School of Business and so very soon we are not just going to train academics but also entrepreneurs. The School of Business is coming to complement the role of a key sector known as the Business Incubation Centre.”

Prof. Al-Hassan

Furthermore, Prof. Al-Hassan urged the GCB Bank Plc to ensure that they institute policies and products that favor students in order to help boost the growth of the bank.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University went on to advise the bank’s management and staff to exercise patience in handling students and clients’ affairs. Also, he urged the bank to ensure it offers them quality services, by demonstrating an appreciable level of efficiency and competency.
