I’m An Ally Of The LGBTQ Community, Not A Member – Sister Deborah Clarifies

Sister Derby

Ghanaian singer and LGBTQ activist, Deborah Vanessa, popularly known as Sister Derby has disclosed that she is not a lesbian although she has been an ally of the queer community for years.

Sister Derby in an interview lamented how a section of Ghanaians have stood against lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgender people, with others pushing for the criminalization of their activities in Ghana and parts of the African continent.

She explained saying;

“How is a queer person supposed to feel because that is how they were born. I am an ally not part of the community. My father who is a pastor hasn’t commented on my supporting the queer community. The only thing he commented on was ‘Uncle Obama’ and I said to him that if a-6-year-old listened to it, they wouldn’t think the way he is thinking. He is fine. My dad is a cool person who understands”.

Sister Derby

Sister Derby also set the records straight about her sexuality heightened after she featured on ‘Wo Fie’ a song by Angel Maxine which advocated LGBTQ rights.

She hammered in the interview saying;

“Once you are not, you are not. The thing about being gay is not all about sex. People just brand it with sex, it is not like that. I admire women but I don’t have feelings… I don’t have feelings for the same sex”.

Sister Derby

Sister Derby once again affirmed the notion that sex sells as she has disclosed how much she has made from selling her explicit photos and videos online.

The Ghanaian model is one of the unconventional socialites who defies all odds to satisfy her beliefs. Over the tears, Sister Derby has made numerous headlines for posting her nudes on social media for free.

The Ghanaian model was speaking in an interview. she said in a video shared on social media;

“Within the first three months, I made like $10,000 or like $11,000”.

Sister Derby

Sister Derby also advised people to masturbate rather than to be with people they are not attracted to.

My ‘happy’ breakup in 2018 made a lot of people angry

In 2018, when the singer Sister Deborah released her single ‘Kakalika Love’ amidst her messy breakup with ex-boyfriend, Medikal, a section of the public, especially women, were angered.

According to Sister Derby, her ability to move away from depression and make money out of a bad situation triggered some women, whom she describes as being angry about her happiness.

She told in an interview saying;

“Sadly, a lot of women were angry that I was happy. I had a hit song and was doing promotions where I was giving out GHC1,000 every week because we were sponsored by someone who really loved the song and believed in the brand. I saw and heard that fellow women were angry… Angry that I wasn’t depressed”.

Sister Derby

Narrating how she made lemonade out of lemons thrown at her, Sister Deborah credited her brother, Wanlov The Kubolor, for encouraging her to release ‘Kakalika Love’.

“No matter what life throws at you, make something positive from it. For example, when I went through a major public breakup and then I released ‘Kakalika Love’. Wanlov said that was the right time to release ‘Kakalika Love’… I had already recorded ‘Kakalika Love’… I was waiting for the right moment but then I didn’t want people to say I was responding and going back and forth”.

Sister Derby

She added saying;

“I won’t join people down there, come on. There is a way to do it… Adele made a whole album about her breakup. We too we made cedis and pesewas (laughs)… Other people will go through a bad breakup and be depressed, sad and cry about it which a lot of people wanted to see me go through it”.
