President Akufo-Addo has congratulated the President-elect of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his victory in the just-ended presidential election.

According to him, it is his expectation that the President-elect would continue in the stead of past Nigerian leaders and deepen even further the strong friendship that exists between Nigeria and Ghana. This, he revealed, has been based on a shared agenda of freedom, development, security, progress and prosperity.

“On behalf of the Ghanaian people and their Government, I extend warm congratulations to the Presidential Candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on his victory in the Nigerian presidential election of Saturday, 25th February…”

President Akufo-Addo

President Akufo-Addo stated that Bola Tinubu’s victory has ensured that the ruling APC Government has been given four more years to continue in office. He expressed optimism that the new government will go a long way to enhancing the quality of governance, the rule of law and the performance of the Nigerian economy.

The President further commended the “vigorous and well-fought campaigns” of presidential candidates of the Peoples’ Democratic Party and the Labour Party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, respectively.

“I am confident that their reactions to the results of the election will reinforce the boundaries of Nigerian democracy, and consolidate the peace and stability of Nigeria, Africa’s giant… Warm congratulations, once again, to President-elect Bola Ahmed Adekunle Tinubu, and to the people of Nigeria. Best wishes for his and Nigeria’s success.”

President Akufo-Addo

Wading in on the monumental day for the President-elect’s victory, world leaders, including President Emmanuel Macron of France, have congratulated Nigeria’s President-elect, Sen. Bola Tinubu, on his electoral victory. Tinubu confirmed this development when he responded to questions after presenting his Certificate of Return to President Muhammadu Buhari in Daura, Katsina State.

Responding to questions on messages of congratulations he has so far received since his declaration by INEC as President-elect, he said: “Oh, very many, many of those; in fact as far as Europe, the stock market reacted positively well, there was a goodwill message from Macron, the President of France”.

Obi Vows To prove win in elections

Meanwhile, the candidate who came third in Nigeria’s presidential elections, Peter Obi, has vowed to prove in court that his supporters were “robbed” of victory.

Peter Obi, who gained 25% of the votes according to official results, speaking in public for the first time today, March 2, 2023, since the weekend poll, stated that Saturday’s elections would go down as “one of the most controversial elections in Nigeria’s history”.

“We won the election, and we will prove it to Nigerians. The good and hard-working people of Nigeria have again been robbed by our supposed leaders whom they trusted.”

Mr Obi has 21 days from the day the results were announced to challenge the result at Nigeria’s highest appeal court. He has however, refused to say what evidence he has to prove he won the election, but his challenge is likely to be based on the inability of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to publish results from the polling units in real time using a new electronic transmission system.

It will be recalled that INEC officials had promised that results from each of the more than 176,000 polling stations would be scanned and uploaded to its website to aid transparency. However, that was not possible on Saturday, with INEC apologizing for what it called “technical glitches”.

It stated that any discrepancies between results on the portal and “physical results” would be investigated and resolved.
INEC also blamed delays on factors beyond its control, like the lack of internet access at some polling stations, for its inability to upload the results.
That notwithstanding, days after the elections ended, the commission has still not uploaded all the results from the polling units to its website.
