Former President John Dramani Mahama has disclosed that the visit to Ghana by the Vice President of United States of America, Kamala Harris, re-affirms the profound relationship between both countries.

According to him, the presence of the US Vice President in Ghana further demonstrates the US growing interest in Africa. To this end, he revealed that he looks forward to the US collaborating with Africa to provide the needed support for economic cooperation, youth development and employment, and enhanced security for global safety.

“I welcome Kamala Harris, Vice President of the United States of America, to Ghana as she begins her one week working visit to Ghana, Tanzania, and Zambia. Her presence in Ghana, following previous visits by Presidents of the U.S.A. in 1998, 2008 and 2009, re-affirms the durable friendship between Ghana and the U.S.A.”

Welcoming the US Vice President to Ghana, Ghana’s Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, stated that Harris’ week-long trip to Ghana and other Africa countries such as Tanzania and Zambia, will deepen the US-Africa relationship focusing on economic development, climate change, food security, and a rising youth population. As such, he wished “Vice President Kamala Harris and her team a pleasant and fruitful stay”.

Vice President, Kamala Harris arrived in Ghana on March 26, 2023, as part of a nine-day working visit to the continent. She was in the company of her husband, Douglas Emhoff, and other top officials in the US government.

She noted that both countries have a lot of work ahead of them, and in that regard, she is looking forward to the trip and the very important relationship and friendship between the people of the United States and those who live on the continent of Africa.

Kamala Harris expressed excitement about the future of Africa and the impact of that future on the rest of the world, including the United States of America. She further emphasized that the partnership between the continent, its people and the people of the United States reinforce the work that both countries will continue to do together.
