Nana Romeo Lists Lasmid As Strong Contender For Best New Artiste At VGMA 2023

Ghanaian artist, Lasmid

As the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards draw closer, debates on who will take home the Best New Artiste of the Year award continue to dominate discussions in the music industry.

Recently, a radio host, Nana Romeo has shared his thoughts on the category, tipping Lasmid as a front-runner for the Best Artiste of the Year among his competitors, Malcolm Nuna, DJ Azonto, DJay, Ewura Abena, and Chief One.

According to Nana Romeo, Lasmid is a known face among many Ghanaians, unlike some of the artists who would walk beside people and not get recognized.

He said:

“Lasmid is straight up; when you mention someone’s name, you must state the reason. Malcolm and the others whose names were mentioned. If anything, Lasmid was on Amerado’s song and his name is on people’s lips, which alone counts”.

He went on to acknowledge the talents of the other nominees, stating that they equally deserve the award.

However, he believes Lasmid stands a good chance of winning because he has a song that is in the system and is well-known to the people.

Nana Romeo told the show host:

“The rest of the guys on the Best New Artiste of the Year equally deserve the award, but Lasmid stands a chance because he has a song that is in the system and he is known to the people, but the others when you see them, you won’t even recognize them”.

The Best New Artiste of the Year category at the VGMA is always highly competitive, with many talented artists vying for the award.

This year’s category is no exception, with Lasmid and Malcolm Nuna among the favorites. It remains to be seen who will emerge as the winner, but one thing is certain – the competition will be fierce.

Nana Romeo, the renowned radio personality, predicted that Camidoh will win the Most Popular Song of the Year at the 2023 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA).

He went as far as saying that if Camidoh’s “Sugarcane” does not win the award, he will walk around wearing only his boxer shorts.

During a panel discussion, Nana Romeo gave his reasons for believing that Camidoh should win the award.

He said that “Sugarcane” has had the longest longevity and has become popular beyond the shores of Ghana.

Nana Romeo also added that he traveled abroad, and many people thought the song was composed by a Nigerian singer.

Meanwhile, on the same panel discussion, Vida Adwuntwumwaa named Wendy Shay’s “Survivor” as the weakest song among the nominees for the Vodafone Most Popular Song of the Year award.

The VGMA 2023 awards ceremony is set to take place on May 6, and the winners will be announced at the event.

Dancehall musician Stonebwoy is in competition with 7 other musicians for the VGMA ‘Artiste of the Year’ title.

His fans are optimistic about him beating the likes of Black Sherif, Piesie Esther, Sarkodie, KiDi, Joe Mettle, Camidoh, and King Promise to win the title for the first time.

Some industry players, including the CEO of Image Bureau, George Quaye, and entertainment critic, Arnold Asamoah-Baidoo, have tipped Stonebwoy to win considering his exceptional performance under the year in review.

The 24th edition of the VGMA seems to be between rapper Black Sherif and gospel musician, Piesie Esther, considering the social media buzz around these two. However, Arnold Asamoah-Baidoo believes that Stonebwoy can pull off a big surprise.

Arnold captioned the cover photo of Stonebwoy’s 5th Dimension album. He wrote:

“Piesie this, Blacko that – but here is that guy who did the most in 2022. Shock us!”.

Parts of George Quaye’s open campaign for the dancehall musician read:

“With multiple international appearances, performances, collaborations, awards, and a sold-out Bhim Concert under his belt, it is no surprise that Stonebwoy has been making waves in the music industry for years now!

“I don’t know which way you have voted and I am not here to influence that in any way. But if you want an act that’s worth the ultimate honor on the night, here’s one worth looking at”.
