Road Construction

Road Construction

One day after the Electoral Commission scheduled a by-election for June 27 in the Assin North Constituency in the Central Region, some earth-moving equipment was spotted in that constituency.

As a result, some roads within Assin Bereku, the district capital of Assin North, are currently being repaired. However, many locals argue that the impending by-election offers a chance to address the long-standing problem of abandoned roads in Assin Bereku.

“We are not surprised that they are constructing the road. We will give thanks to James Gyakye Quayson for giving the sitting government pressure. When Jesus Christ died, mankind benefited and that is the same way James Gyakye Quayson has done.”

Others are also happy the advent of the by-election has resulted in a reconstruction of the roads. “We need development, so if it is coming because of the by-election, we are happy,” one said.

Residents are questioning if these construction initiatives will proceed after the by-election or it is meant to solicit for votes.

“But the question we want to ask is whether they will still continue with all the developmental projects, even after the by-elections. Gyakye Quayson has said it already that he will give the NPP government pressure to do the needful, and so he deserves the needed applause.

“Our roads since 1996 have not been good, and it has not been any better till today. So, if they are fixing our town roads it’s because of Gyake Quayson.”

Resident of Assin Central Constituency

James Gyake Quayson of the NDC and the victor of the NPP primary for the Constituency will compete for the position to represent the constituency in Parliament.

The Supreme Court’s decision to remove the former Member of Parliament, Gyakye Quayson, sparked the by-election in Assin North. When he ran for and won the seat in 2020, the court found that he was a Canadian citizen. As a result, on Tuesday, May 30, Parliament declared the Assin North seat vacant. So, for the constituency and its citizens, the impending by-election is crucial.

Gyakye Quayson Solicits For Votes From Assin North Constituency

James Gyakye Quayson, a former legislator from Assin North made a plea for his constituents to vote for him in the impending by-election, so that he can gain re-election to Parliament.

Mr. Gyakye Quayson has formally announced that he intends to run for office in the Assin North by-election on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ticket.

Mr. Quasyon declared in a statement on June 1: “I know that you, the people of Assin North, are ready for the bye-election.”

“Since last year April, when the Supreme Court stopped me from performing my duties as your representative in Parliament, you have been without representation in the 8th Parliament of the 4th Republic. Like the people of the SALL Traditional Areas who are excluded from representation in this Parliament, you the people of Assin North too have been in that unacceptable situation for over a year.

“The bye-election, which must be held within thirty days of the decision of the Supreme Court, according to the Constitution (Article 112(5)), will bring an end to this situation. The will of the people of Assin North must triumph.”

James Gyakye Quayson

In order to continue the work he started doing on their behalf to advance the Assin North development agenda, he asked all of his constituents to vote for him and declared that democracy must be restored.
