NPP Wrong For Nominating Charles Opoku For Assin North By-Election- A.B.A Fuseini

Alhaji A.B.A Fuseini, a member of parliament for the Sagnarigu Constituency, has emphasized that Charles Opoku, the candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Assin North by-election, was allegedly more aligned with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) than the NPP.

He claimed that the NPP made a mistake in choosing him as their candidate and that Charles Opoku was brought in from Tarkwa Nsuaem to run for office on the NPP’s behalf, due to the party’s opportunistic tactics.

As stated by A.B.A Fuseini, Charles Opoku had no business visiting Assin North, but NPP believed it might poach him due to its cunning politics.

“This was the man who was very cozy with the NDC. He was closer to the NDC and I am telling you this as a matter of records found out there. But for the fact that perhaps Gyakye Quayson was rightly chosen, he was eyeing to be the NDC candidate here. The NPP thought they can poach him and get advantage; they were dead wrong.”

Additionally, He praised the Ghana Police Service for its high degree of professionalism in ensuring that the Assin North by-election was conducted without any incident. He complimented the Police and said that “They made sure they provided a congeniality atmosphere for a peaceful and orderly election and ensured the will of the people of Assin Breku prevailed.”

Alhaji Fuseini stated that the election results in Assin North demonstrated that Ghanaians want the NDC to keep holding the NPP-led-administration to account. He promised, “We’ll make sure to keep the accountability fire burning.”

However, Evans Nimako, the NPP’s Director of Election, also asserted that the party’s loss in the Assin North by-election does not signify that the public disapproves of the NPP. He claimed that it is impossible to predict how the general elections in 2024 will turn out using the outcomes of the Assin North by-election.

“They have retained their seat, it doesn’t amount to a rejection of the NPP. We have large numbers to win election 2024 and you can’t use this to predict election 2024.”

NPP Has More To Worry In 2024 Than The NDC

According to Mr. Bright Simons, Vice President of Imani Africa, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), which won the Tuesday, June 27 by-election in Assin North, and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), which won the by-election in Kumawu, demonstrate that the opposition NDC is maintaining its level of support from 2020.

He added that this clearly proves that the disgruntled supporters of the incumbent NPP are largely staying at home, without an urge nor the motivation to step out and vote. Furthermore, he said that the NPP has more to worry in 2024 than the NDC, who has yet to enthuse non-NDC supporters.

Bright Simmons tweeted; “What the 2 recent parliamentary by-elections in Ghana show is that: 1/ The Opposition NDC is maintaining its level of support from 2020…2/ Disgruntled supporters of the incumbent NPP are mostly staying home…3/ NDC has yet to excite non-NDC voters…4/ NPP has more to fear in 2024.”
