The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has sworn in its newly elected national officers, led by National Chairman John Boadu, after the National Executive Elections that ran from October 3 to 4, 2026. Chairman of the National Officers Election Committee, Hon Opare Ansah, administered the oaths and told the officers to lead one united party.

Those sworn in include the three vice chairmen, Kojo Fosu Boadu (Kojo Bamba), Henry Nana Boakye and Nana Akomea, and General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua. Ansah used the ceremony to thank the institutions behind the vote and to remind the winners that their authority carries obligations.

The Officers Who Took the Oath

According to the results sheet, John Boadu won the chairmanship with 2,888 votes, ahead of Boakye Agyarko on 2,408. Kojo Fosu Boadu topped the vice chairmanship contest with 3,116 votes, followed by Boakye Agyarko on 3,061 and Nana Akomea on 2,987.

Mustapha Abdul-Hamid finished fourth, 31 votes behind Akomea. Justin Kodua retained the General Secretary post with 4,486 votes against 1,340 for Sylvester Tetteh.

The rest of the team is Alfred Kojo Thompson as National Treasurer, Daniel Nii Kwartey Titus Glover as National Organizer, Abanga Fuseini Yakubu as National Youth Organizer, Mavis Hawa Koomson as National Women Organizer, Alhaji Mohammed Ali Suraj as NASARA Coordinator and Dennis Miracles Aboagye as National Communications Director, who ran unopposed.

The nine positions produced 11 officers because the party elects three vice chairmen.

Ansah Thanks Institutions and Candidates

Hon Opare Ansah opened by recognising the bodies that made the elections possible. He thanked the Electoral Commission of Ghana for conducting the vote and for working closely with the party and the election committee. He also thanked the Ghana Police Service and the security, health and safety agencies that kept order.

He saluted the delegates who travelled from across the country and carried out the duty the party’s Constitution gives them. He thanked every candidate who offered to serve and acknowledged that an internal election always produces winners and those who are not elected. “Our party must emerge from this contest with no losers,” he said.

Every candidate, he added, strengthened the democratic traditions of the NPP by standing. He asked members to put the contest behind them and turn to the work ahead.

Authority Comes With Responsibility

Turning to the winners, Hon Opare Ansah called their mandate significant and said the oath should remind them that “authority in our party comes with responsibility.” The post they are taking up is the stewardship of a national organisation with structures in every region, constituency, electoral area and polling station.

He listed what the officers inherit beyond their titles. They must uphold the party Constitution, respect its institutions and protect its unity. They must act fairly among members and place the interests of the party above personal or sectional interests.

Hon Opare Ansah told the officers that “the campaign is over.” From that moment, he said, they must lead the party as one and make room for every member who wants to help rebuild it.

The reorganisation has passed through several important stages, and the election of national officers closes one and opens another. The responsibility for carrying that work forward, he said, now passes substantially into their hands.

Two Oaths Bind the Officers

Hon Opare Ansah led the officers through two oaths, each officer inserting their name and the office won. In the oath of office, an officer pledges true faith and allegiance to the NPP and promises to discharge the duties of the office faithfully, without favour, affection or ill will.

The officer swears to uphold and defend the party Constitution and not to reveal matters learned in office, except where official duties require it or the law permits. An officer who breaks the oath agrees to accept the penalty the Constitution sets.

The oath of secrecy commits the officer to act with integrity and discretion, to uphold the principles and values of the party, and to keep confidential everything tied to the office, including discussions, strategies and related materials.

The officer also pledges to safeguard confidential documents, physical and digital, from anyone unauthorised. The same constitutional consequences apply to any breach. The swearing-in completes the formal handover of leadership in the NPP.

The officers now take charge of a reorganisation the party began after its defeat in the 2024 general election, and they will shape how it prepares for 2028 under flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia. Whether they deliver the unity Hon Opare Ansah demanded will be tested as the party rebuilds its structures from the polling station upward.
