The Sky Train Project Is A Scam- Kofi Adams

Member of Parliament for Buem constituency, Kofi Adams.

Member of Parliament for Buem, Kofi Adams, has revealed that the sky train project by government is a scam.

According to him, due to the clandestine nature of the deal, it passes off as insincere, especially with government’s handling of the project. He indicated that the personalities involved in the project which includes the CEO of Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF), who claims he “doesn’t even know what is happening” and the minister for railway development who “spoke not too long ago and he made it clear that we should forget about sky trains”, confirms his statement.

“It’s clear that this is a scam… It’s a scam because there has not been any feasibility, the company has no license, we don’t know it from anywhere and you just gave away $2 million. The current minister for railway development is saying that we can’t have any sky train now. The CEO of GIIF, yesterday was saying it’s a project that is still alive. Who is telling us the truth?”

Furthermore, Mr Adams alleged that the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF) has made other investments for which it does not even have certificates.

Minority demands refund of sky train project fund

Commenting on the next step the minority will take in addressing the situation, the Buem legislator noted that leadership has requested that the $2 million must be recouped, and possibly with interest. Additionally, he noted that persons behind the sky train project must also be dealt with.

“Whoever sat and approved the payment of that $2 million will have to answer, including the sector minister who supervised that project… You don’t do all these things and come back and blame COVID. You don’t waste your money this way and every time we talk, you say COVID. Can you imagine if we had invested this $2 million in a tomato processing company in Pwalugu so that people are assured that when we grow our tomato, we will get a factory that will process it? Wouldn’t that be more profitable for us? Today, we are spending so much money, over $400 million importing tomatoes just from Burkina…”

Touching on what his expectations are for the presentation of the mid-year budget by finance minister, Ken Ofori Atta, Mr Adams revealed that he doesn’t “expect anything different from him”. He indicated that the finance minister’s presentation on the mid-year budget is a no-brainer, if only it’s “not going to get worse”.

“So, we are waiting for him to come and perform the constitutional demand on him. Mr Speaker has indicated we are going on recess on the 3rd of August, so, 25th July has been given as the date that he will appear before us and give the mid-year review. So, when he brings it to tell us how he’s going to deal with all these debt situations, we will take it up from there.”

Kofi Adams

On the issue of LGBTQ, Mr Adams noted that parliament is more than ready to pass it, as the second reading has gone through and been approved. With this, he emphasized that the next phase is the consideration stage where the bill will be assessed clause by clause.

“What I can say is that I’m sure we cannot conclude that process in this meeting. Surely, in the next meeting, we will be able to deal with it. ”

Kofi Adams

Furthermore, he cautioned persons complicit in dragging parliament to court to refrain from such act, as it stalls the processes of the House.

“As for those who are hiding behind other persons to go to court and cite contempt… I have reasonable reasons to suspect that because sometimes the position and the leanings of some of those persons who are in court makes me believe so… If that is not the case, we must all know that parliament has the duty and responsibility to perform its functions and we are performing that function.”
