The Minority Leader in Parliament, Honorable Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has once again denied the allegation that he has pleaded for a bargain deal with the Office of the Attorney-General and Ministry of Justice.

In response to a reportage attributed to the Deputy Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Alfred Tuah  Yeboah claiming that he has sought a plea bargain arrangement with the Office of the Attorney–General, the Ajumako Enyan Esiam legislator indicated that the claim is completely false.

According to the National Democratic Congress Member of Parliament, the claim was mainly intended to cause public disaffection towards him.

“My attention has been drawn to a reportage attributed to the Deputy Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Alfred Tuah Yeboah claiming that I have sought a plea bargain arrangement with the office of the Attorney-General.  This claim is false, wicked and evil and is intended to incite public prejudice against me and undermine my right to a fair hearing.

The Minority Leader further indicated that he has not applied to the Honorable Court or the Attorney General Department for a plea to bargain or ask for any out-of-court settlement of the pending charges levelled against him.

“I wish to state, that I have not, at any point in time, approached anyone or authority to consider or discuss the said plea bargain that has been attributed to me”.

Ato Forson Demands For Correction Of Wrongful Reportage Against Him

The former Deputy Minister of Finance thus requested that the Deputy Attorney General and Minister of Justice and CitiNewsroom.Com, take appropriate measures to correct the wrongful reportage against him.

Meanwhile, the Head of Legal Affairs of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe has also denied claims that Minority Leader, Cassiel Ato Forson, has applied for a plea bargain in the ongoing €2.3 million ambulance case against him.

Lawyer Edudzi Tamakloe described the claims as “false and lies from the pit of hell” and called on the general public to disregard them.

“Let me say this with all the vehemence required, Cassiel Ato Forson has not applied either to the court or the Attorney General for a plea bargain. Any claim that he has put in a request for a plea bargain is completely false and a lie from the pit of hell.”

Moreover, Lawyer Edudzi Tamakloe claimed that Richard Dzakpa, the third accused, is the one who has applied for a plea deal and that Mr Forson’s legal team has informed the Attorney General that they will not support Mr Dzakpa because there are no conspiracy charges in the case, so Mr Dzakpa should be considered as the only party seeking a plea deal.

“The third accused person, in the person of Richard Dzakpa, formally applied to the court for a plea bargain and the Office of the Attorney General reached out to us to know whether we are opposed or have any objection to Mr Dzakpa entering into a plea bargain and we indicated out to them that there is no conspiracy charge and so everybody is on his own and so if Mr Dzakpa wants a plea, we don’t care.”

It is recalled that, on October 5 2023, the Daily Guide Newspaper published a news article indicating that the Minority Leader in Parliament and former Deputy Finance Minister, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has reached out to the Attorney General hoping to have the criminal action against him settled through a plea bargain.

According to the Daily Guide Newspaper Dr Forson, through his lawyers wrote to the Attorney General seeking to settle the trial initiated against him for willfully causing a financial loss of €2.37 million to the state, through a contract to purchase 200 ambulances for the Ministry of Health, among other charges.

However, in response the Director of Legal Affairs for the opposition National Democratic Congress, Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe Esq indicated that the publication by the Daily Guide Newspaper on October 5 2023 was completely false.
