The Former Energy Minister, Boakye Agyarko, has declared that the New Patriotic Party will rebuild its structures and return to power in the 2028 general elections. He made the declaration after a group of NPP constituency executives purchased, collected and presented nomination forms to him to contest the position of National Chairman.
The gesture, according to the former minister, affirmed an earlier appeal made by constituency chairmen on June 20 for him to take responsibility for leading the party. Mr Agyarko described the decision by the executives as a significant demonstration of confidence in his capacity to guide the party through its next phase.

The aspiring National Chairman expressed gratitude to the constituency chairmen who financed the purchase of the forms and accompanied representatives to the party headquarters. He explained that their action gave practical meaning to the request they previously made for him to offer himself for the leadership position.
Referencing the June 20 appeal, Mr Agyarko indicated that he accepted the call with a clear understanding of the responsibility attached to the chairmanship. Therefore, the presentation of the nomination forms represented another important step in translating that appeal into an organised political campaign.
“This party shall rise again. This party may have gone down, but we are not out. With the dedication and commitment I see, NPP, here we come.”
Boakye Agyarko
The former minister further outlined victory as the central objective of his decision to contest the national chairmanship. From his perspective, rebuilding the party requires a leadership structure capable of restoring discipline, strengthening organisation and preparing the NPP for the next presidential and parliamentary contest.
Analysing his proposed role, Mr Agyarko indicated that the national chairman would have to lead a process of rebuilding and rebranding the party. He linked that responsibility to the need to create a strong electoral organisation that could support the party’s presidential candidate in the 2028 elections.
The former Energy Minister also pointed to Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the presidential candidate around whom the party’s electoral strategy would be organised. He projected that a revitalised NPP structure would provide the necessary platform for Dr Bawumia to campaign effectively and pursue victory in the next general elections.
Addressing the wider NPP fraternity, the aspiring National Chairman appealed for dedication and commitment as the party moves through its internal reorganisation. He suggested that the enthusiasm demonstrated by the constituency executives offered an indication of the organisational support available to leaders prepared to take on the task.
National Contest Takes Shape As NPP Rebuilds For 2028
The next stage of the NPP’s internal reorganisation will shift attention towards the national executive elections. The contest is expected to determine the leadership team that will coordinate the party’s structures as it prepares for the 2028 general elections.
The national chairmanship race carries particular importance because the position involves coordinating the party’s organisational machinery across the country. In addition, the successful candidate will work with other national executives to strengthen links between the national leadership, regional structures and constituency organisations.
Against this backdrop, the decision by constituency executives to support Mr Agyarko introduces another dimension to the national contest. Their intervention suggests that grassroots party officials are taking an active interest in who should assume responsibility for guiding the NPP through its next electoral cycle.

The aspiring chairman has presented his candidacy around the themes of rebuilding, rebranding and electoral victory. His proposed approach places organisational renewal at the centre of the party’s preparation for the 2028 presidential and parliamentary elections.
“My task as chairman is going to be that I lead in the rebuilding of this party, rebranding it into a solid electoral machine.”
Boakye Agyarko
The emphasis on rebuilding comes at a period when the NPP is reviewing its performance and internal structures following the 2024 election. Consequently, the national executive elections are expected to provide an opportunity for members to choose leaders with the capacity to organise the party and strengthen its electoral operations.
Furthermore, the national leadership will have to coordinate the work of the party’s various levels as preparations for the next election gather pace. Such coordination will require consistent engagement with constituency executives who remain central to mobilisation and grassroots organisation.
The role of constituency chairmen in the latest development also highlights the importance of grassroots participation in determining the future direction of the party. Their decision to purchase and present the nomination forms provides a clear indication of their preferred candidate in the chairmanship contest.
At the same time, the national election will offer other aspirants an opportunity to present their own visions for the party. The competition is therefore likely to focus on leadership experience, organisational capacity and the ability to unite party structures around a common electoral objective.
