The New Patriotic Party has opened nominations for all national officer positions, with the process running from Monday, 17 August to Saturday, 22 August 2026. Frederick Opare-Ansah, Chairperson of the National Officers Elections Committee, announced the opening in a notice to aspirants.

Nomination forms will be available daily between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. across the six days, and aspirants must bring their stipulated filing fees in cash or by paid cheque when collecting forms.

The window feeds directly into the National Executive Elections scheduled for 3 October 2026, giving candidates roughly six weeks to campaign once the field closes.

Six days to file

Opare-Ansah set out the timetable in plain terms, leaving no ambiguity about when the window opens and shuts. “Today marks the opening of nominations for all aspirants for the National officers positions. The process runs from Monday, 17th August to Saturday, 22nd August, daily from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM,” he said.

The six-hour daily window across six days gives aspirants thirty-six hours in total to complete the process, a compressed schedule for a national contest covering the party’s full slate of officer positions.

Cash or paid cheque only

The Committee attached a specific requirement to the collection of forms, and the instruction leaves aspirants little room to arrive unprepared.

“All interested aspirants are encouraged to come along with their stipulated filing fees either in Cash or by paid cheque to pick up their nominations within the stipulated period and ensure that all required processes are duly completed”.

The notice does not disclose the filing fees for individual positions. Those amounts have historically varied by office, with the national chairmanship attracting the highest charge, and they function as a practical filter on the size of the field.

The instruction that aspirants ensure all required processes are duly completed also signals that collecting a form is only the first step, with vetting to follow before any name appears on a ballot.

What happens on 3 October

The nomination window forms one stage of a roadmap the party’s elections committee published earlier in the year. The National Executive Elections take place on 3 October 2026, when delegates choose the officers who will run the party through the next electoral cycle.

That schedule leaves about six weeks between the close of nominations and polling day, a period in which candidates must reach delegates across all sixteen regions.

The timing places the newly elected regional executives at the centre of what follows. The party completed its regional elections days before nominations opened, returning chairmen in most regions.

Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, known as COKA, took the Ashanti Region against Dr Henry Kwabena Kokofu. Bernard Okoe-Boye won Greater Accra against Alfred Boye, and Jeff Konadu Addo emerged in the Eastern Region. Western North voted on 16 August, with results from Oti and Bono East outstanding at the time of the announcement.

Regional structures mobilise the delegates who vote at national congress, which means aspirants filing this week will spend the following weeks courting people who took office only days earlier.

A leadership pressing for unity

The nomination announcement follows appeals from senior figures for the party to close ranks after the regional contests.

Presidential Candidate Dr Mahamudu Bawumia said in a statement that the regional contest is over and the greater task is unity and renewed energy to secure victory in 2028. His 2024 running mate, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, had earlier urged unsuccessful aspirants not to step away from the work of rebuilding the party.

Both interventions landed within days of the nomination window opening, at a point where defeated regional camps decide whether to engage with the national contest or withdraw from it.

The reorganisation follows the party’s loss of power in the 2024 general election, which ended eight years in office. The officers elected in October will carry responsibility for the party’s organisation through to the 2028 presidential and parliamentary elections, working alongside a flagbearer already selected.

Who files by Saturday, and who survives vetting, will give the first indication of how the party’s internal balance has shifted since the defeat.
