The Bank of Ghana (BoG) Governor, Dr. Johnson P. Asiama, has acknowledged Advans Ghana Savings and Loans Ltd. as one of the country’s leading and best-performing savings and loans companies, highlighting its contribution to the financial services industry.

The recognition followed a high-level courtesy call by the leadership of Advans Group and Advans Ghana on the central bank governor during Advans Group Board Week 2026.

The meeting brought together senior executives and board members to discuss developments in Ghana’s financial services industry, regulatory priorities and the role of savings and loans institutions in expanding access to financial services.

Beyond the formalities of the visit, the engagement provided an opportunity for the two sides to exchange views on financial sector stability, regulatory reforms and the need to extend appropriate financial services to individuals and businesses that often struggle to access conventional banking.

The recognition from the central bank governor also highlights the growing importance of savings and loans institutions in Ghana’s financial system, particularly as policymakers seek to strengthen the sector while promoting broader financial inclusion.

BoG Recognises Advans Ghana’s Contribution

During the meeting, the Governor and his team acknowledged Advans Ghana’s contribution to the industry, recognising the institution as one of the leading and best-performing savings and loans companies in the country.

The acknowledgement comes at a time when financial institutions are operating within an evolving regulatory environment, with increased attention on risk management, liquidity, governance and the sustainability of lending activities.

Advans Ghana’s engagement with the central bank leadership reflects the importance of maintaining constructive relationships between financial institutions and regulators as the industry responds to changing economic and regulatory conditions.

The Advans delegation also commended the Bank of Ghana for its leadership and the introduction of reforms intended to strengthen the country’s financial sector.

Such engagement allows financial institutions to share operational perspectives with regulators while gaining a better understanding of policy priorities that could influence their business models and service delivery.

The discussions also highlighted the role of savings and loans companies in reaching customers whose financial needs may not be adequately served by traditional banking institutions.

Liquidity Framework Takes Centre Stage

One of the key issues discussed during the courtesy call was the Bank of Ghana’s liquidity framework and its implications for regulated financial institutions.

Liquidity management remains an important consideration for financial institutions because lenders must maintain sufficient resources to meet their obligations while continuing to provide credit and other financial services to customers.

The discussions underscored the need for financial institutions to understand regulatory expectations and maintain sound financial management practices as they expand their operations.

Dr. Asiama emphasised the importance of effective collaboration between the regulator and financial institutions in maintaining financial stability while broadening access to financial services.

This relationship is particularly important for savings and loans companies, which serve individuals, entrepreneurs and small businesses that depend on accessible financing to manage their daily activities and pursue growth opportunities.

Striking a balance between regulatory compliance and financial inclusion remains a central challenge for the industry. While institutions must maintain appropriate risk controls, they must also develop products that respond to the financial needs of the customers they serve.

The engagement provided an opportunity for Advans leadership and the central bank to exchange perspectives on these priorities.

Advans Group Reaffirms Commitment to Responsible Finance

Steven Duchatelle, Chief Executive Officer of Advans International, said the visit reinforced the Group’s commitment to maintaining strong relationships with regulators in the markets where it operates.

“Our engagement with the Bank of Ghana reflects our commitment to responsible finance, sound governance and sustainable growth. We value the opportunity to exchange perspectives on developments in the financial sector and reaffirm our support for expanding access to appropriate financial services.”

Steven Duchatelle

The comments reflect the Group’s stated focus on responsible financial services and the importance of working with regulatory authorities to support sustainable operations.

Advans Group operates across multiple markets, providing financial services to micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, entrepreneurs and individuals who face barriers to accessing conventional banking services.

These customer segments play an important role in economic activity, but access to financing can remain a challenge for businesses and individuals with limited collateral, irregular income or insufficient credit histories.

By serving these segments, financial institutions such as Advans can help bridge gaps in financial access, provided their lending activities remain consistent with sound risk management and responsible financing practices.

The Group’s presence across several African markets also gives it experience in serving customers within different financial and regulatory environments.

Advans Ghana Pledges Responsible Lending

Guillaume Valence, Managing Director of Advans Ghana Savings and Loans Ltd., reiterated the institution’s commitment to operating within Ghana’s regulatory framework while delivering financial services tailored to customers’ needs.

“A strong relationship with the regulator is essential to sustainable growth. We remain committed to responsible lending, sound risk management and expanding access to finance for individuals and businesses, while contributing to the stability and development of Ghana’s financial sector.”

Guillaume Valence

The commitment places responsible lending and risk management at the centre of the institution’s stated priorities.

Responsible lending requires financial institutions to assess borrowers’ ability to repay, manage credit risks and structure financing in ways that support customers without exposing them to unsustainable debt.

These considerations are particularly important for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises, many of which depend on external financing to purchase inventory, invest in equipment, manage cash flow and expand their operations.

The institution’s approach will also need to remain aligned with regulatory requirements as Ghana continues to strengthen oversight of its financial services industry.

Board Week Brings African Leadership Together

The courtesy call formed part of Advans Group Board Week 2026, which brought together Group leadership, board members and management representatives from its subsidiaries and group office for strategic engagement and an operational review.

Participants included representatives from Advans subsidiaries in Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Nigeria and Tunisia.

The gathering provided a platform for the Group to review its operations, strengthen coordination across its markets and engage on developments affecting its financial services activities.

The meeting with Dr. Asiama added a Ghana-focused dimension to those discussions, reinforcing the importance of regulatory engagement in the Group’s local operations.

As Ghana’s financial sector continues to evolve, the ability of savings and loans institutions to combine prudent management with broader access to finance will remain important.

Advans Ghana’s engagement with the Bank of Ghana therefore highlights the shared interest of regulators and financial institutions in supporting a stable financial system that serves a wider range of individuals and businesses.
