The Youth Wing of the Bono Regional National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed its concerns regarding the recent decision by the delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to elect Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia  as their flag bearer for the upcoming 2024 elections.

The concerns were made known in a letter signed by the Bono Regional NDC Youth Organizer, Rashid Ahmed.

He argued that the delegates were faced with a decision between a hard place and a stone.

“While we understand that this decision was made by the party delegates, it was obvious that the party delegates were faced with the difficult decision of choosing between the bad and the worst, as all aspirants have been part of Ghana’s persistent economic crisis. We would however quickly congratulate Dr. Bawumia for emerging the first even though he stands less a chance to make himself popular considering his bad records in the last seven years as Vice President of this country.”

According to the group, there is an urgent need to highlight several key issues surrounding Dr. Bawumia’s performance as Vice President and his capacity to introduce innovative ideas into governance.

They argued that Dr. Bawumia’s credibility has been brought into question. Throughout his tenure, he made a series of promises that have failed to materialize, leaving many Ghanaians disenchanted. Moreover, they claimed his prioritization of self-promotion over delivering concrete results for the people has raised concerns about his trustworthiness and integrity.

Additionally, they argued that Dr. Bawumia’s stewardship of the economic management team has been under scrutiny. Despite being touted as an “economic messiah,” the country has grappled with various economic challenges, including soaring inflation, mounting public debt, and a weakening currency. These economic hardships have had a profound impact on the lives of ordinary citizens, fostering skepticism about the government’s ability to effectively steer the economy.

Furthermore, the youth wing postulated that Dr. Bawumia’s tenure has failed to usher in any substantial innovations. Despite promises of groundbreaking policies, the nation has continued to grapple with long-standing economic issues. This absence of fresh ideas and strategies has raised doubts about Dr. Bawumia’s capacity to lead the country toward sustainable economic growth and development.

Thus, Rashid Ahmed questioned Dr. Bawumia’s competence in comparison to the “experienced and capable John Mahama”.

He emphasized that it is deemed disappointing that the NPP would select Dr. Bawumia as their front-runner in the face of such a formidable opponent. He believes that the decision is a disregard for the esteemed office of the presidency and a disservice to the Ghanaian populace.

”While we acknowledge the democratic process within political parties, we believe that the NPP could have chosen a candidate who possesses a track record of effective leadership and a genuine commitment to the welfare of the Ghanaian people. This is a total mismatch, and does not align with the aspirations and needs of the Ghanaian populace. We therefore urge our fellow citizens to critically assess the performance of each candidate and evaluate their potentials to address these challenges moving forward. The incompetent Bawumia is definitely not that guy.”

Mahama’s Is A Compelling Alternative

The group believes that there is a growing demand for leaders to demonstrate empathy, humility, and a genuine dedication to addressing the needs of the people. However, the group mentioned that the recent displays of opulence during the presidential primaries have raised questions about Dr. Bawumia’s understanding of the struggles faced by ordinary citizens.

Hence, for them, it is vital for all to consider these concerns about Dr. Bawumia’s tenure and the potential implications of his candidacy for the upcoming elections.

Rashid Ahmed stressed that the focus must be on effective economic management, the introduction of fresh ideas, and a sincere dedication to the welfare of all citizens. According to the group, this can easily be achieved with the visionary John Mahama as leader and president of this country.

The “visionary leadership of John Mahama” was thus presented as a compelling alternative, given his competence and extensive experience, making him a promising candidate to lead Ghana toward a more prosperous future.

Considering his competence and experience over the years, the group believes he is even poised to lead the good people of Ghana in “BUILDING THE GHANA WE WANT TOGETHER”.

“Together, let us strive for a Ghana that embraces progress, equality, and the well-being of all its citizens”, he urged.
