According to the celebrated legislator, the Council would be responsible for guiding his office on the equitable distribution of donations to all the twenty-one displaced camps and affected households across the North Tongu constituency.

Again, the opposition National Democratic Congress Member of Parliament and former Deputy Minister of Information and Education indicated that the  Accountability Elders Council would also ensure that no victim of the flood occasioned by the Akosombo dam spillage is left out in the distribution of the relief items.

The Ranking Member on the Foreign Affairs Committee in Parliament stressed that the council would provide mechanisms that would prevent any diversion of relief items or funds received through his office.

‘”the AEC will also be responsible for guiding my office on equitable distribution of donations to all 21 displaced camps and affected households across my beloved constituency; ensuring no victim is left out; and assisting me with integrity mechanisms that must prevent any diversion of relief items or funds received through my office”.

“Ghanaians do have beautiful hearts — some 800 staff at the Accra East Branch of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) decided to make personal contributions towards an impressive 3-truck-load-donation to VRA-induced flood victims in my beloved constituency. We truly are one people, with a common humanity & a common destiny. God bless you all & bless our dear nation”.

On September 15, the Volta River Authority began releasing additional water due to the rising levels of the Akosombo and Kpong power dams.

Weeks after the flooding started, many residents of the Lower Volta Basin lost their homes and farmland to water caused by it. Nine districts have reportedly been impacted by the floods, and the locals are currently experiencing a humanitarian crisis.

Heartbreaking reports have emerged from the South, Central, and North Tongu districts of the Volta Region, where the devastation is unrelenting. The once prosperous settlements of Battor, Tefle, Mepe, Sogakope, Adidome, and Anlo are now totally submerged under the incessant floods.

The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) reports that more than 26,000 people have been left homeless or relocated.
