The Electoral Commission of Ghana has released a detailed calendar outlining the key dates and activities leading up to the much-anticipated 2024 general elections.

The comprehensive schedule spans several months and encompasses crucial stages of the electoral process, from voter registration to the declaration of results.

The electoral journey kicks off with an extensive 56-day public education campaign, aiming to inform and engage citizens on the upcoming voter registration exercise. During this period, the Electoral Commission is expected to employ various mediums to disseminate information, ensuring that Ghanaians are well-informed and prepared for their civic duty.

From May 7 to May 27, the Electoral Commission of Ghana is set to begin a registration exercise to enable eligible Ghanaians who do not have voter identification cards to register and obtain voter identification cards for the purpose of public election.

Following the registration phase, the Electoral Commission of Ghana is expected to begin a nationwide exercise on May 30 to replace any missing voter ID cards, ensuring that every eligible citizen has the necessary documentation to cast their votes in the upcoming elections.

The Electoral Commission calendar also showed that the various political parties will receive the provisional voters’ register between July 9 and 18, providing an opportunity for scrutiny and verification. This stage emphasizes transparency and inclusivity in the electoral process.

Exhibition Of The Voters’ Register Schedules On July 15 To 24, 2024

Furthermore, the Electoral Commission of Ghana calendar indicated that from July 15 to 24, the Electoral Commission will conduct an exhibition of the voters’ register, allowing citizens to verify their details and address any discrepancies. This crucial exercise would ensure accuracy and instill confidence in the electoral system.

The calendar by the Electoral Commission of Ghana also indicated that the final voters’ register will be submitted to political parties from August 30 to September 5, 2024, marking a pivotal moment as the electoral framework is solidified for the December 7 polls.

Moreover, per the Electoral Commission of Ghana’s calendar, aspiring candidates for both presidential and parliamentary positions will have the opportunity to file their nominations between September 9 and 13, marking the formal commencement of the electoral process.

Then, on September 23, 2024, the balloting process for positions on the presidential ballot paper will take place, followed by the balloting for parliamentary positions on September 24.

In addition, according to the calendar of the Electoral Commission of Ghana, selected professionals, particularly personnel of the various security agencies and media personnel will cast their votes on December 2, 2024, providing an early opportunity for individuals unable to vote on the main Election Day.

The culmination of the electoral process will be on December 7, 2024, when Ghanaians across the country will exercise their constitutional right to vote and elect both their Members of Parliament and the President of the country.

According to the calendar of the Electoral Commission of Ghana, within three days of the main Election Day, the Commission would make the official declaration of presidential results, bringing the electoral cycle to a close and unveiling the chosen leaders of the nation.

The release of the calendar by the Electoral Commission of Ghana aims to ensure transparency, inclusivity, and fairness in the upcoming 2024 general elections, fostering confidence in the democratic process among the Ghanaian populace.
