NPP Projects, Stolen- NDC

NDC and political shift

National Democratic Congress, NDC

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the ruling New Patriotic Party of claiming for itself some projects undertaken by the Mahama administration before the NPP took over in 2017, and indicated that most of the projects on the government’s Performance Tracker are ghost projects.

The NDC noted that the Dodowa District Hospital which was listed on the Performance Tracker was commissioned in 2016 under Mahama’s administration, asserting that there is evidence of the commissioning of the hospital during Mahama’s tenure on various government platforms.

The NDC also stated that the NPP added the Fomena District Hospital which was being constructed before the NDC left office in 2016, indicating that the least the ruling NPP could have done was to give credit to the NDC for claiming projects from the NDC “green book” as its own.

“Aside from stealing projects, the tracker is filled with uncompleted toilets and abandoned projects they [the NPP] started eight years ago, repeated projects from the old tracker, uncompleted projects”. – NDC

Furthermore, the former Deputy Minister of Transport, Madame Joyce Bawah Mogtari sarcastically noted that the “misleading’ government Performance Tracker failed to track the performance of Akufo Addo/Bawumia’s performance on corruption.

She described the projects undertaken by the incumbent government as indicated by the tracker as a waste of Ghana’s precious resources while she demanded that the NPP discloses to Ghanaians how the party and its associates have perfected the art of corruption.

“We are told that 80% of government projects and contracts are single-sourced, and individuals and companies are handpicked by this nepotistic government and awarded juicy contracts. That is what this NPP government should be tracking down and paying back to the now miserably empty public purse”.

Meanwhile, the NDC revealed that the government’s Agenda 111 project, which was supposed to give the Health sector an infrastructure boost, is averagely completed, emphasizing that none of the hospitals have been commissioned.

Government’s Priorities, Wrong

Moreover, the NDC disapproved the newly launched Performance Tracker by the Akufo-Addo-led government, labeling it as a misplaced priority. The NDC argued that the time and resources allocated to formulating and launching the Performance Tracker could have been better utilized to stabilize the country’s failing economy.

The Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, Mustapha Gbande, further questioned the tracker’s efficacy in improving the daily livelihoods of Ghanaians. At the same time, he indicated that the government’s priorities do not align with the genuine welfare concerns of ordinary Ghanaians.

“How will the performance [tracker] impact the ordinary Ghanaian who has not eaten in the last 24 hours? How would that impact the life of an old lady who is helpless but cannot get health care and government intervention?”

Mustapha Gbande

He emphasized that a competent government does not need to list its achievements, arguing that when a government has achieved enough, the achievements of such a government speak for themselves.

He expressed disbelief about the government’s claims on its accomplishments in the health sector, stating that the sector has deteriorated as some hospitals have returned to the practice of “cash and carry”, while emphasizing that the health sector is in dire need of infrastructure development.

“They want to present what they have captured on a performance tracker that does not reflect what is on the ground”. – Mustapha Gbande

Moreover, he noted that the NPP continues to lie although Ghanaians are aware of the nonexistence of the projects the government claimed to have completed, arguing that the government’s behavior is a clear proof that it does not care about the ordinary Ghanaian.

Conclusively, he emphasized that the tracker does not provide an accurate reflection of the nation’s development, echoing that given the current economic challenges the country is facing, the government should be more focused on projects that will enhance economic recovery.
