President Advised To Take Dumsor Seriously

Political Scientist at the University of Ghana, Professor Ransford Gyampo has questioned the President what his (the President’s) description of the current power situation confronting Ghanaians is.

He indicated that the present power issue is serious and must be treated as such and demanded that the President takes actions to resolve the issue quickly.

He advised the President not to “join those little minds, who think they are smarter than all Ghanaians and are refusing to describe our current inability to keep Ghana switched, on as Dumsor“.

Moreover, he requested the President to provide an overview of Ghana’s current energy landscape and encourage public scrutiny of the issue for further analysis.

He observed that given the President’s ties to the UK as his second home country, he is well aware that effective governance in a developing nation like Ghana requires consistent and proactive efforts.

He noted that these efforts must go beyond superficial political rhetoric and propaganda, to drive progress and development forward.

“As you govern Ghana in your injury time, it is important I let you know that candor about our challenges is crucial in eliciting and garnering the needed public empathy, understanding, and support”.

Professor Ransford Gyampo

He mentioned that the President’s refusal to acknowledge obvious issues hampers the collaborative endeavors to address them effectively. He stressed that this behavior reflects a sense of pride and ineffective leadership.

Professor Gyampo further indicated that the President’s lack of accountability and transparency creates a barrier to progress and improvement.

He pointed out to the President the importance of his actions in government, emphasizing that they will ultimately shape the legacy he leaves behind, for good or bad.

He stressed the idea that the President’s impact on the country’s future will be defined by the choices he makes during his time in office.

Power Issues To Be Resolve By End Of May

Meanwhile, Former Chairman of Parliament’s Committee on Roads and Transport and former Member of Parliament for Ayensuano Constituency, Samuel Ayeh-Paye, has assured that the government is working earnestly to resolve the recent power challenges.

According to the former Member of Parliament, the incumbent Akufo-Addo administration will take necessary measures to address the existing problems and fulfill the promises made.

The former MP further stated that the administration is committed to resolving these issues and is determined to end them by the close of May 2024.

“We’ve kept the light on for the past seven years. What has been happening is just some outages that we’re working on, and we want to assure them [Ghanaians] that by the end of next month [May], we’ll not see these things again,”

Samuel Ayeh-Paye

Furthermore, he appealed to Ghanaians to exercise restraint and bear with the government as measures are being put in place to resolve the challenges.

He emphasized the importance of unity in times of crisis and the need for everyone to come together for the greater good and expressed his confidence in the government’s commitment to finding solutions and improving the current situation

Also, the former MP revealed that the Twin City Energy power project, which began commercial operations on July 30, 2021, has been completed and is on standby to be linked to the national grid to enhance the electricity situation.

“VRA hasn’t given us the timetable yet, but what they have told us is that they’re done with what they’re supposed to do.”- Samuel Ayeh-Paye

He stressed that there is no necessity to provide a timetable as requested by the people of Ghana because he believes that the current situation will come to an end by the end of May

In the interim, the ongoing power supply concerns persist, prompting heightened public apprehension for the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to release a comprehensive timetable for improved day-to-day planning by consumers.

The government’s persistent lack of transparency regarding the release of a schedule continues to attract censure from the populace, reflecting the government’s perceived neglect of citizens’ well-being.
