The CEO of Ghana Music Awards UK, Nii Ofori Tackie, also known as Alordia, has stated that it will take two years for a Ghanaian artist to be able to sell out the much-acclaimed O2 Arena in the United Kingdom.

This statement comes on the back of the successful Indigo O2 concert hosted by Ghanaian rapper Medikal on May 3, 2024.

The sold-out event featured a host of prominent musicians from Ghana, including Shatta Wale, Sarkodie, and Bisa Kdei.

This was followed by the sold-out Legends Night concert with Highlife Legend Daddy Lumba, which also had Shatta Wale and Medikal on stage.

Alordia pointed out that consistent promotion would get a full Ghanaian audience to come and support a show hosted by a Ghanaian artist.

“We can do the O2 Arena, but we need another one and a half to two more years to do it. The reason is that Ghanaians come out for shows, but they don’t come out that much.”

Alordia

He highlighted the difference in audience turnout between events by Ghanaian and Nigerian artists.

He Asserted that while Ghanaian shows see a moderate number of attendees, Nigerian performancestend to draw larger crowds.

“When Nigerian artists are doing their shows, we get fans from other African countries like South Africa, Jamaica, Nigeria, Ghana, and Zimbabwe, all going to support them because their music cuts across those countries. They know the songs. So as soon as they hear Wizkid is coming, they know Wizkid’s songs, so they will go.”

Alordia

He stated that filling a major stadium like the O2 Arena would require attracting fans from other countries.

“We need to cut across, step into their boundaries, then we will see them coming,” he added.

King Promise Can Fill O2 Arena

Alordia reportedly declared King Promise as the Ghanaian artist with the potential to pack the prestigious O2 Arena in the UK.

He confidently indicated that King Promise possesses the allure to attract not only local fans but also international audiences to his concerts.

“King Promise would not only attract local fans but also international audiences to his shows. If King Promise is doing a show right now, I bet you he will get some people from foreign countries to come.”

Alordia

Alordia had touted Black Sherif’s global appeal, suggesting that the rising star could fill the O2 Arena with collaborative efforts from the entertainment sector.

However, he now says Black Sherif at the moment could not achieve that feat.

“Now, as we speak… Black Sherif? No. King Promise can even get more crowd than Black Sherif in London right now,” he added.

Also, popular Ghanaian music producer and sound engineer, KillBeatz revealed that King Promise is the best bet for the Artiste of the Year award at the 2024 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA).

According to him, the musician, among his contenders has the upper hand for the year under review given the statistics available.

“This is what we’ve been waiting for! To take Ghanaian music and African music to another level. And I’m so proud of King Promise. There is nobody else. He has to win it! If somebody else wins that award, I don’t know what they’re trying to say.

“King Promise has enthralled the audience in Ghana and beyond with the release of his hit ‘Terminator’ last year, and extended the same energy to 2024 with captivating lyrics, he is planning more shows in Asia and a tour in Canada to promote Ghana’s music industry to where it deserves.”
