Henry Nana Boakye on US deportee deal

Henry Nana Boakye, National Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP),

Henry Nana Boakye, National Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has alleged that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is obstructing and manipulating the ongoing Ambulance Procurement trial, which involves former Deputy Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson.

Nana Boakye accused the NDC of deliberately trying to undermine and discredit the prosecution’s case, potentially to shield their party members from accountability.

According to the NPP Organizer, the NDC has resorted to every trick in the book to impede the prosecution of Ato Forson, aiming to prevent him from facing justice for the significant financial loss inflicted on Ghana.

As such, he noted despite the NDC’s protection of its party member, there is no denying the fact that Ato Forson’s actions have had a devastating impact on the provision of critical emergency health services, leaving citizens vulnerable and without access to timely and effective care.

“The latest in this charade is the claim of possessing some damning evidence which has been found out to be a recording by Richard Jakpa at a meeting the AG was invited to by a Supreme Court judge, Justice Emmanuel Yonny Kulendi without being informed Richard Jakpa will be present”.

Furthermore, Nana Boakye revealed that the NPP has received credible information that the NDC is attempting to tamper with the tape, deceitfully editing out crucial parts of the conversation, including the voice of the Supreme Court Justice, “whose invitation the AG honored out of courtesy”

As such, Nana Boakye came to the Attorney General’s defense, stating that the unedited recording would show that the AG never asked Richard Jakpa to falsify or distort his testimony in any way, contrary to the false claims being circulated by the NDC.

The NPP patriot further underscored the importance of upholding justice, no matter the consequences, emphasizing that the principle of justice dictates that wrongdoers must be held accountable, regardless of their affiliations.

Accordingly, Nana Boakye warned that NDC’s attempts to conceal or distort the truth will not exonerate those who fraudulently presented ordinary vans as ambulances, stressing that they will still face accountability.

Call For AG’s Resignation

Meanwhile, Professor Kwadwo Appiagyei-Atua, lecturer at the University Of Ghana School Of Law, called for the resignation of Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Godfred Dame, due to concerns about the integrity and credibility of the office.

Accordingly, he appealed to President Akufo-Addo to take decisive action and remove the Attorney General from office if he refused to resign, emphasizing the urgent need to rebuild public trust and confidence in Ghana’s justice system.

Prof. Appiagyei-Atua’s remarks followed allegations made by Richard Jakpa, the 3rd defendant in the ambulance procurement trial, who claimed that the Attorney General had previously attempted to persuade him to provide evidence against Dr. Ato Forson.

Furthermore, Prof. Appiagyei-Atua noted that past experiences suggest the Attorney General is unlikely to resign or be removed by the President, but he remains hopeful that the right decision will ultimately be made.

As such, he pointed out that if the Attorney General doesn’t resign or get removed, there are alternative courses of action, such as a parliamentary investigation, which could be pursued as a viable option.

“A special commission inquiry can also be set up to do that, and I think that we should not let this matter rest because it goes up there to the level of the Attorney General’s office, and so something needs to be done”.

Likewise, several others have echoed these sentiments, including Mr. Ansah Asare, a former Director of the Ghana School of Law and a seasoned private legal practitioner, who has also advocated for the Attorney General’s resignation or removal.
