The Member of Parliament for North Tongu Constituency, Honorable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has expressed resolute in his fight against corruption despite the threat of several lawsuits against him.

The National Democratic Congress legislator, in a statement, expressed heartfelt gratitude to Ghanaians for their overwhelming support amidst a series of legal battles he describes as spurious and intended to gag his parliamentary oversight.

Honorable Ablakwa underscored the crucial role of public solidarity in his ongoing crusade against state capture and financial malfeasance.

He revealed that numerous Ghanaians have reached out with offers of assistance, both moral and financial, describing it as a testament to the collective nationalistic spirit that fuels his determination.

“Some of you have already started mobilizing financial resources to assist with legal fees.  Your remarkable love for country, solidarity, and nationalistic support keeps me focused and resilient. I do not take your support for granted — I shall remain eternally grateful”.

Unwavering Commitment to Anti-Corruption Efforts

Emphasizing his unwavering commitment to the fight against corruption, the Ranking Member of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs, Honorable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa strongly posited that he shall never bend the knee in his quest due to intimidation tactics.

He strongly pointed out that no degree of harassment would deter his mission to save the country billions of cedis and protect state assets from plunder.

“Let’s be clear — no degree of intimidation will stop us from saving this country billions of cedis, salvaging the battered public purse, and protecting all state assets from naked plunder”.

Highlighting the gains the country has accrued through his anti-corruption effort, the North Tongu lawmaker detailed significant achievements, crediting public support for these successes.

To begin with, Honorable Ablakwa indicated that without his vigilance and support from the general public, the country might have faced a scandal involving the misappropriation of US$450 million, beyond the already “abominable” US$58 million expenditure on the construction of the National Cathedral.

He also highlighted that the exposure of President Akufo-Addo’s profligate spending, such as the €20,000 per hour on ultra-luxury jet charters, despite Ghana possessing a modern presidential jet in pristine condition, has extremely benefitted the country, adding that the country has saved millions of cedis since his exposure.

Again, Honorable Ablakwa mentioned the prevention of a dubious GHS242 million payment related to e-Transaction Levy Services, a move that he noted safeguarded the public purse, attributing it to his parliamentary oversight responsibility, the vigilance of the Minority Caucus in Parliament and the support of the general public.

Moreover, the National Democratic Congress Member of Parliament for North Tongu recounted his effort in the exposure of the inflated US$12.2 million Oslo Chancery purchase, which was curtailed due to opposition and interventions from the general public.

“GHS187million would have been lost but for our exposé in the kitchen scandal series;  Ghanaian workers would have lost their most treasured SSNIT hotels;  These are but a few of the modest gains we have made with your support — for God and Country”.

Honorable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa concluded by reaffirming his resolve to continue the fight against corruption, recounting the modest gains the country has recorded through his anti-corruption effort.

“We cannot afford to give up or be silenced. Victory shall be ours”, Honorable Ablakwa stated, underscoring his unwavering commitment and the broad public support he enjoys, which signify a steadfast movement against corruption in Ghana.

In an earlier statement, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu welcomed a lawsuit filed against him by Freddie Blay, Board Chairman of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) and his sons regarding the sale of SSNIT Hotels.

The National Democratic Congress lawmaker, in bold remarks, reacting to the report of the lawsuit, expressed confidence in his ability to emerge victorious in the legal battle.

He described the lawsuit as a pivotal moment in the ongoing struggle against what he terms “State Capture” under the New Patriotic Party administration led by President Akufo-Addo.
