In a decisive move aimed at fortifying the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) campaign for the upcoming December 2024 elections, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP presidential candidate, has chosen Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, often referred to as Napo, as his running mate.

This revelation came from Dennis Miracles Aboagye, the spokesman for the Bawumia campaign team, who disclosed that this decision was made long before the presidential primaries were held on November 4, 2024.

According to Dennis Miracles Aboagye, the choice of Dr. Opoku-Prempeh was a predetermined strategy for Dr. Bawumia.

“Dr. Bawumia settled on Dr. Napo as his choice even before the presidential primaries. He took this decision long ago. He has always known that Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh is his running mate.”

Miracles Aboagye described the duo as the ideal combination to lead the NPP into the December elections, highlighting the complementary strengths that Dr. Opoku-Prempeh brings to the ticket.

“Everybody knows that Dr. Matthew Opoku-Prempeh is results-oriented. He delivers on tasks assigned to him. He is a goal-getter, as he goes the extra mile to achieve success with tasks entrusted to him,” Miracles Aboagye noted.

This early decision, according to Miracles, reflects Dr. Bawumia’s foresight and strategic vision for the NPP as they aim to secure victory in the forthcoming elections.

Miracles further addressed common misconceptions about Dr. Opoku-Prempeh’s personality, clarifying that his discipline and confidence are often mistaken for arrogance.

Miracles Aboagye also lauded Dr. Opoku-Prempeh’s achievements during his tenure as the Minister of Education.

“In the Education Ministry, everybody would tell you Dr. Matthew Opoku-Prempeh is an exemplary leader, and this fact can be attested to by GNAT [the Ghana National Association of Teachers], NAGRAT [the National Association of Graduate Teachers], and all the other teacher unions that worked with him.”

One of Dr. Opoku Prempeh’s significant achievements as Education Minister was the implementation of the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy, a landmark social intervention program aimed at ensuring that every Ghanaian child who completes basic school has access to senior secondary education. Gravitas and Attributes

Miracles argued that Dr. Opoku-Prempeh possesses the gravitas and other essential qualities needed to support Dr. Bawumia in the NPP’s mission to “break the eight,” a term used to signify their goal of securing a third consecutive term in office.

“Dr. Opoku-Prempeh has the gravitas and all the other attributes required to partner with Dr. Bawumia as the NPP embarks on its campaign to break the eight,” Miracles Aboagye said.

The decision to pair Dr. Bawumia with Dr. Opoku-Prempeh is seen as a strategic move to consolidate the NPP’s support base and appeal to a broader electorate. Dr. Bawumia, known for his economic expertise and digitalization initiatives, and Dr. Opoku-Prempeh, recognized for his hands-on approach in the education sector, are expected to present a formidable front in the forthcoming elections.

As the NPP gears up for the 2024 elections, the selection of Dr. Matthew Opoku-Prempeh as Dr. Bawumia’s running mate reflects the party’s confidence in their combined leadership capabilities.

This decision underscores the NPP’s commitment to addressing key issues such as education, economic stability, and social interventions. With Dr. Bawumia and Dr. Opoku-Prempeh at the helm, the NPP aims to navigate the complexities of the electoral landscape and secure a historic victory in December 2024.
