Trump Congratulates Farage

Donald Trump has congratulated Nigel Farage, a long-time ally, for securing his first seat in the UK Parliament after seven failed attempts.

This victory comes as a significant moment for Farage, who has been a prominent figure in British politics for years.

The UK general election held on Thursday, July 4 saw the Labour Party, led by Sir Keir Starmer, achieving a landslide victory, thereby ending the Conservative Party’s grip on power under Rishi Sunak.

Amid this seismic shift, Farage’s Reform UK party managed to secure four seats, indicating a shift in voter sentiment, particularly on immigration policies that seemed to attract disillusioned Conservative voters.

Trump, using his Truth Social platform, extended his congratulations to Farage. “Congratulations to Nigel Farage on his big WIN of a Parliament Seat Amid Reform UK Election Success,” Trump wrote. He added, “Nigel is a man who truly loves his Country! DJT.”

However, Trump’s congratulatory message did not mention the Labour Party’s sweeping victory or extend any greetings to Starmer, who Trump might need to engage with closely if he wins the upcoming presidential election against Joe Biden in November.

Farage, known for his previous leadership of UKIP and the Brexit Party, surprised many last month by announcing his candidacy for the Reform Party in the July 4 election.

This decision marked a significant shift from his earlier stance, where he had declared he would not participate in the general election, preferring instead to support Trump’s presidential campaign.

In Thursday’s election, Farage achieved a decisive victory, overturning a 25,000-vote Conservative majority to win the MP seat for Clacton in Essex by over 8,000 votes.

This triumph, after seven unsuccessful attempts, marks a pivotal moment in his political career.

In his victory speech, Farage stated that his win was just “the first step of something that is going to stun all of you.” He also criticized the Conservative Party, asserting, “There is a massive gap on the centre-right of British politics and my job is to fill it.”

Farage And Trump’s Relation

Farage and Trump’s alliance dates back nearly a decade, beginning when Trump invited Farage to speak at his MAGA rallies during the 2016 presidential campaign.

This period coincided with the UK’s Brexit vote, a campaign Farage had passionately championed. The relationship between the two deepened after Trump assumed office, with Farage interviewing him on LBC radio in 2019.

During this interview, Trump took the opportunity to criticize then-Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn and offer advice to then-Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Brexit.

In more recent interactions, Trump appeared on Farage’s GB News show in March, where he controversially claimed that the US finances “90 to 100 percent” of NATO.

This assertion was part of a broader criticism of NATO member states for not meeting their financial obligations. Trump also supported Farage during a controversy involving an edited photo of Kate Middleton and her children, downplaying the incident as “a very minor doctoring.”

Trump further demonstrated his support by sending a video message for Farage’s 60th birthday, calling him a “historic figure as a prophetic leader” and expressing his anticipation for Farage’s future endeavors. “You’re not done yet, and hopefully the best is yet to come,” Trump said in his message.

Reflecting on their relationship, Farage mentioned during an ITV interview in June that Trump had “learned a lot” from his approach, particularly during his initial White House bid.

Farage claimed, “He was watching my speeches in the European Parliament for many years… before he decided to run. I know that to be true.”

As the Reform Party gains traction, it will be intriguing to see how Farage leverages this new political capital.
