Kofi Karikari Outlines 3 Important Things Bachelors Should Consider Before Marriage

Ghanaian award-winning singer-songwriter, Kofi Karikari has fondly recalled how he met his wife.

He also outlined three of the most important things to consider before one gets married per his experience.

“There’s a knowing. It gets to a point in everybody’s life you get to know it’s time for me to marry [and] that you need a helpmeet to continue the vision God has given you.”

Kofi Karikari

He stated he impressed on God that unless he helped with the decision-making for a spouse, “there are mistakes I’d make,” he noted.

Kofi Karikari bemoaned that a lot of people mistakenly think when it comes to marriage, they have to make the decision alone when they can get God to help them play certain things to their advantage.

He encouraged those who have the urge to marry to pray to God, “Describe the specifications and he’ll give you just what you want because God does not want us to cope but to enjoy life,” he added.

According to the 2024 Telecel Ghana Music Awards Male Vocalist of the Year, he met his wife, Dr. Oye Karikari, at a friend’s wedding after he spoke to God.

He lightheartedly recalled how he was upset with how everyone at the wedding was waving and interacting with Oye, distracting him from preaching.

Little did he know, he added, Oye, who was singing mates with the groom in a city choir, had not been seen in a long time because he thought she was in medical school and the wedding had become a reunion of sorts.

Despite his initial annoyance, the respected singer-songwriter noted they became friends.

“Fast forward, we became friends and through God’s counsel and guidance, we found out that we click, there was a lot of interest that we shared, and it was actually God’s will for us to be together.”

Kofi Karikari

He maintained matter-of-factly that in choosing a wife, one needs to find a beautiful woman.

“First thing, find a woman who is beautiful. If your wife is not beautiful to you, the likelihood is you’ll start looking elsewhere for what you think is beautiful. So, one, find a woman who is attractive to you and is beautiful.”

Kofi Karikari

The “Meda W’ase” hitmaker revealed that a bachelor, secondly, should get a woman who loves and fears the Lord, further citing how his wife is always looking for God in everything.

He emphasized both partners have to be God-fearing to preserve a marriage.

“This trait helps with the hard times and times of friction, you know, disagreements. The absence of this leads to a lot of conflicts in marriages, and then it eventually breaks unless you have people who first prioritize God.”

The last character trait he named was patience because it will be needed to finish the race of life and marriage.

Singer Encourages Christian Leaders

According to Gospel singer Kofi Karikari, because “my core is music,” he does not like to focus on his entrepreneurial half, especially in media engagements.

The award-winning singer-songwriter explained that when he says the other stuff, people tend to pay more attention to that.

Even though he said “it’s true” he enjoys making money from his private business, he was adamant about revealing details about it, preferring rather to speak about the value of having a job and pursuing financial independence apart from one’s service as a Christian leader.

In his view, the aforementioned fosters accountability.

“Yes, God is actually a working guy. The truth is even when you look at scripture, in the book of 1 Thessalonians, Paul vehemently states when he went among the people of Thessalonica, he was very much with them but he worked with his hands so that he wasn’t dependent on them.

“Sometimes, if a leader does not do that, they lose the capacity to tell the truth in love. Some people are financially dependent not intentionally. Those who are a bit disadvantaged so they are unable to do a thing or two, so then that’s their sole way of having something put on the table.”

Kofi Karikari

The Saint Augustine’s College and Presbyterian University College alumnus urged if not more or less, boxed in there, God has given one the capacity to find something else to do and must pursue it so that they’re able to speak the truth in love.

“So there are some men of God who own businesses [and] do other things so that they can put food on the table for their families and also be able to point out the truth in love because when someone else is feeding you, you’re very careful what you say lest you do not get what you have to eat.

“That’s what we try to do. We find something to do with our hands so that we’re able to independently speak the truth when people are erring and share the truth in love every time.”

Kofi Karikari

Kofi Karikari is an exceptional musician who first came to public notice because of his international hit titled “Yahweh”.

His latest album, “Lifted High”, has 12 songs, houses his new hit “Something New”, and has a tribute to Yaw Sarpong’s legacy, “Me Nsuro”.
