The recent actions and comments of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO, have sparked controversy and raised questions about his intentions.

While some interpret his behavior as a deliberate attempt to set the NPP up for failure, others see it as a legitimate expression of his political views.

The statement comparing the NPP to Nkrumah’s regime has particularly drawn attention, with some viewing it as a form of political sabotage.

Furthermore, NAPO’s actions could be considered a calculated move to undermine the NPP’s credibility and chances.

By making controversial statements and taking actions that spark outrage, he may be trying to create a narrative that the NPP is incompetent or not a reliable choice for Ghanaians.

This could be a strategic move to gain political advantage, especially in a highly polarized political climate.

NAPO’s claim that President Akufo-Addo has outdone Nkrumah in terms of development was an attempt to craft a narrative that the NPP is a party committed to progress and development.

However, this comment was perceived by many as an insult to Nkrumah’s legacy and a form of political sabotage aimed at undermining the NPP’s credibility.

Accordingly, Joyce Mogtari Bawah, Special Aide to John Mahama, indicated that the NPP running mate is setting the party up for failure with its inflammatory comments.

Joyce Bawah noted that Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s legacy is unique, unlike that of other past presidents like Jerry John Rawlings and John Atta Mills, whose contributions are often subject to biased interpretations.

“This is Kwame Nkrumah. There is no confusion or debate over his legacy; there is clear local and international consensus. He is in a league that President Akufo-Addo may only aspire to. The assertion is so lofty and arrogant that I am tempted to believe NAPO purposely set his party up for ridicule- was it deliberate, sir?”

She stated that Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, a national icon, should not be used as a political pawn for trivial gain and partisan scoring.

NAPO’s Actions Threaten NPP’s Reputation and Electoral Prospects

Furthermore, NAPO’s actions have the potential to damage the NPP’s reputation and erode public trust in the party.

By perpetuating a narrative of disrespect and disregard for Ghana’s history and legacy, he is creating a self-fulfilling prophecy that could ultimately lead to the NPP’s downfall in this election.

It is surprising that NAPO, a member of the NPP himself, would make such a comment, given the party’s reliance on the support of the very people who revere Nkrumah’s legacy.

As such, the running mate’s actions can be seen as a deliberate attempt to alienate the NPP from its political base and set the party up for failure.

According to Prof. Kobby Mensah, a Political Marketing Strategist, NAPO’s utterance is a bizarre strategy that aims to “whip up the base and divide the country”, which contradicts the notion of NPP enthusiasts that NAPO’s intention is solely to energize his supporters.

“When you had the opportunity to unite the country behind your ticket the best you could do was to take a swipe at Nkrumah. Really? A very Ashanti-centric running mate”.

Prof. Kobby Mensah

However, without further context or evidence, it’s difficult to say for certain what NAPO’s true intentions are.

It’s possible that NAPO’s actions are driven by a mix of motivations, both political and ideological.

Despite the mounting public criticism and disapproval, the NPP persists in defending NAPO’s controversial claim that President Akufo-Addo’s achievements surpass those of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

As such, to fully understand NAPO’s intentions, it’s important to consider multiple perspectives and potential motivations.

Ultimately, the incident highlights the need for nuanced and informed political discourse.

Rather than jumping to conclusions or making assumptions about NAPO’s intentions, the public should strive to understand the complex factors at play.

By doing so, Ghanaians can foster a more informed and engaged citizenry, and promote a healthier democracy.
