Ghanaian gospel star, Joyce Blessing has intimated that being a singer is not as lucrative as it may publicly appear.

She indicated, that though she works in a tough industry, she enjoys various forms of gifts and tips from time to time.

“However, by God’s grace, I’m able to take care of my family and myself [through my work] so I’m very okay. Some of the gifts are not weighty but the appreciation is worth more than anything else to me.”

Blessing cited that “just last week,” she was surprised with GHS1,000 via mobile money (Momo) by a total stranger who works in the timber industry.

He had phoned her and told her he was a fan and had received her number from a mutual friend of theirs. He said he was on standby to help her with anything she wanted, she added.

She spoke about receiving US$100 after playing a gig for a certain teacher’s mother on her birth anniversary, apart from her fee.

In addition, Joyce Blessing said her fans give her foodstuffs for free from their stands when she goes to the market. “It’s a nice experience,” she remarked.

Gratefully noting God’s gift of music was the ultimate gift she had ever received, she revealed, from a human, that the biggest gift to her came from Nana Appiah Mensah, popularly known as NAM1.

“I will never forget NAM1. Wherever he is, God bless him. The first time he met me, he blessed me.”

Explaining this, she narrated a story about once playing a gig for a bank, she did not provide a name, for which she had to foot the bill for the accompanying band and instruments.

“The organizers didn’t know that was their responsibility and not part of my fee,” she said.

Affectionately called ‘Unbreakable’, the singer-songwriter said unbeknownst to her, the bank was led by NAM1 who took note of her compromise and two years after the program, surprised her with the GHS10,000 token of gratitude.

“It was a pile of money. He took it out, put it on the table, and pushed it to me. I sat there quietly. I was very grateful.”

She expressed profound gratitude to all others who had been kind to her, caveating, in the heat of the moment, she may have perhaps forgotten to mention them by name.

The ‘Victory’ hitmaker said her music was a heartfelt gift from her to her diverse fans and the Christian community.

Despite her marriage ending bitterly about four years ago, gospel singer Joyce Blessing is not giving up on love.

Joyce Blessing stated she was ready to try marriage again if the opportunity presented itself in the future.

The singer revealed that despite her bitter experience, she was still open to marrying again, so long as she could be herself.

“I think marriage is a beautiful thing, and love is a beautiful thing. I believe that when you meet one who understands you and loves you just as you are and you can be yourself every time, it’s very important.”

Joyce Blessing

The ‘Victory’ hitmaker advised people only to enter relationships where they would have peace of mind with their partner.

“Not one that you are trying to be someone and please the person, which even you cannot do, but by force you want to,” she added.

The singer parted ways with her husband and then manager, Dave Joy, in what became one of Ghana’s most bitter celebrity divorces.

As their relationship crumbled and spilled over into the media, reports claimed they had been unfaithful to each other and DNA tests hogged the headlines.

The divorce led to Blessing, who has three children with Joy, losing her official Instagram and YouTube to her ex-husband and she had to begin again.
