Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the Director of IT and Elections for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has expressed outrage over an illegal encroachment attempt on Ghana International School (GIS) lands located at Cantonments, Accra.

The highly respected institution, known for its long history of educating generations of Ghanaian leaders, has become the target of brazen land grabbers in what Dr. Boamah described as a “despicable” act of lawlessness.

In an impassioned statement, Dr Omane Boamah condemned the audacity of the encroachers, labelling them “Liberal Land Looters,” and questioned the absence of moral integrity and compassion in their actions.

“I was in denial when I heard the despicable act of land looters extending their reach around 2 a.m. to illegally and criminally possess a parcel of land that belongs to Ghana International School (GIS)”.

The former Minister of Communications under the erstwhile NDC’s administration further expressed his frustration over the encroachment attempts on the very grounds that have been home to an institution responsible for educating many of the encroachers themselves, as well as their children and grandchildren.

Dr Omane Boamah commended Lawyer Amponsah-Mensah and the school’s security for standing firm against the encroachers, whom he referred to as “bullies stealing prime lands in Accra.”

He indicated that their swift action, in collaboration with law enforcement, prevented what could have been a significant blow to the integrity of the school’s property.

Dr Boamah underscored the importance of protecting the school from those seeking to exploit its prime location in one of Accra’s most valuable areas.

Betrayal of Basic Ethical Standards

In a scathing critique, Dr. Omane Boamah questioned the morality of those involved in the encroachment, comparing their actions to a betrayal of basic ethical standards.

“Where is compassion? What has happened to the moral compass? Where has good judgment been dumped?” he asked, denouncing the complete disregard for decency shown by the encroachers.

Dr Boamah did not hold back in his remarks, even drawing parallels between the actions of the land grabbers and the code of the Mafia world.

“I thought even the Mafia world ruled by the Law of Omerta delineated boundaries to define DOS and DON’TS,” he remarked, hinting that even criminal organizations would recognize limits that these encroachers have ignored.

In closing his remarks, Dr. Omane Boamah called for an end to the apparent looting of prime lands in the nation’s capital, saying “Hands off GIS lands! Hands-off Land Looting! Never again!”.

His message served as a rallying cry, not just for the protection of GIS lands, but for a broader defence against land encroachment, which has become a growing problem in Accra.

The case of GIS, he warned, should be a wake-up call for authorities to take decisive action against those who exploit legal loopholes and resort to criminal tactics in their quest for valuable properties.

His statement comes at a time when land encroachment in prime areas of Accra has reached alarming levels, with unscrupulous individuals often backed by powerful networks seizing lands belonging to institutions, families, and communities.

In another statement, the Office of the President categorically denied any involvement in an ongoing land dispute regarding a parcel of property owned by the prestigious Ghana International School (GIS) located in Cantonments, Accra.

Mr Eugene Arhin, Director of Communications at Jubilee House, the Office of the President, in a statement, distanced the Office of the President from the allegations and described them as completely unfounded.

The statement outlined four key points to clarify the situation. The Office of the President firmly stated that it has “no interest whatsoever” in the GIS land in question, dismissing any possibility of presidential influence or involvement in the dispute.
