The Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram Constituency, Hon. Samuel Nartey George has expressed his outrage and disgust at the continued encroachment of Ga lands, accusing individuals within the government of using state power to unlawfully seize lands in the Greater Accra region.

In a strongly worded statement, the National Democratic Congress lawmaker called out the alleged involvement of officials from the Presidency in the latest attempt to grab lands belonging to the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS).

According to Hon. Sam George, this act of land capture is not only unlawful but also reflects a growing trend of disrespect toward the Ga-Dangme community.

“The latest attempt to steal lands belonging to the GIS by agents purporting to be from the Presidency of President Nana Akufo-Addo is shameful and sad”.

Silence of Authorities Draws Ire

Hon. Samuel Nartey George further lamented the silence of key government officials, particularly the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Samuel Abu Jinapor.

He expressed his disappointment at the apparent lack of condemnation from the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, who he believes should be leading the charge against such activities.

He pointed out that the Land and Natural Resources Minister, Hon. Samuel Jinapor’s own children attend the Ghana International School, the school that has been affected by the ongoing land encroachment, yet there has been no public statement or action to address the issue.

Call to Ga Mantse and Chiefs

Furthermore, the Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram Constituency, Hon. Samuel Nartey George expressed deep concerns at the silence of the Ga Mantse, the paramount chief of the Ga State, and the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs for their failure to intervene or make any public statements regarding the ongoing land grabs.

He accused them of cowardice and failing to protect the interests of their people, suggesting that their silence might indicate complicity.

“It is time for the Ga Mantse and the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs to man up and speak. Their silence is cowardice and a blot on the integrity of the Ga State. They either speak up or we consider them willing accomplices”.

A Pledge for the Future

Looking ahead, Hon. Samuel Nartey George vowed that if his party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), returns to power in 2025 under the leadership of former President John Dramani Mahama, all illegally acquired lands would be reclaimed, and those responsible would be held accountable, regardless of their political affiliations.

“The next John Mahama government from 2025 must recover all such stolen lands and prosecute the perpetrators irrespective of their political colours. Enough is enough!” Hon. Sam George declared.

He underscored the opposition party and its flagbearer’s commitment to end the alarming and apparent land encroachments in the Ga State, highlighting the need for stronger governmental and traditional leadership to address the situation.

The MP’s impassioned remarks serve as a rallying cry for the protection of Ga lands and highlight the need for swift, decisive action from both the government and traditional authorities.

In another scathing remark, the Director of IT and Elections for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Edward Omane Boamah expressed outrage over what he termed as the illegal encroachment attempt on Ghana International School (GIS) lands located at Cantonments, Accra.

Dr Omane Boamah commended Lawyer Amponsah-Mensah and the school’s security for standing firm against the encroachers, whom he referred to as “bullies stealing prime lands in Accra.”
