Economic development is a multifaceted process that requires a balance between stimulating demand and creating employment opportunities.

In Ghana, a country striving for sustainable economic growth, stimulating household demand and driving job creation are crucial components.

These elements enhance the overall economic environment and contribute significantly to poverty alleviation, income distribution, and social welfare.

Accordingly, Evron Rothschild Hughes, economic advisor to the Vice President, has indicated that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia proposes stimulating household demand for goods and services.

Hughes pointed out that this approach supports business expansion and creates jobs.

“The anchors for this are:  by means of the Tax Amnesty “Stimulus” Programme, taxes, penalties, and interests forgiven, which will increase household disposable income, stimulating consumption (demand for goods and services)”.

The Presidential staffer further explained that this initiative will be supported through the implementation of individualized credit scores, which will play a key role in increasing access to credit for individuals and households.

Hughes maintained that by enabling more people to obtain loans and financial services tailored to their credit profiles, the system aims to empower consumers with greater purchasing power.

He stated that this, in turn, is expected to significantly expand the “market” by boosting consumption levels and increasing demand for goods and services.

The NPP stalwart highlighted that by linking credit access to individualized scores, the government plans to create an inclusive financial ecosystem that promotes economic activity, business growth, and job creation across various sectors.

Hughes further argued that this system will allow Ghanaians to pay for goods and services over an extended period, aligning payments with the economic lifespan of individuals and easing financial pressure.

According to him, this approach contrasts with the current system, where consumers are limited by the need to make upfront purchases with cash-in-hand, restricting their ability to access higher-value goods and services.

He added that this limitation ultimately hinders economic growth and negatively impacts consumer welfare.

NPP Government to Extend Credit Access

Furthermore, Evron Rothschild Hughes indicated that under Dr. Bawumia’s leadership, the next NPP government will extend credit to more credit-worthy consumers.

According to Hughes, this extension is expected to spur increased demand for goods and services, driving economic growth and business expansion.

“[This will be anchored on] the use of the Flat Tax system, which will flatten the tax burden, and leave households with more “take-home” pay, make the estimation of tax liability easier and therefore better planning of the household budget, and simplify tax administration. This will boost demand for goods and services”.

The Vice President’s Economic Advisor emphasized that, in conjunction with the supply-side Stimulus Programme for Businesses, this initiative will empower companies to expand and create more jobs.

He stated that by providing the necessary support and resources, the government aims to foster a dynamic business environment that drives economic growth and enhances employment opportunities for Ghanaians.

Hughes noted that ultimately, this strategy is designed to improve overall economic resilience and sustainability while promoting innovation and entrepreneurship across various sectors.

Accordingly, the NPP loyalist asserted that voting for Dr. Bawumia as President, along with NPP candidates for Parliament, is essential for supporting businesses, empowering young Ghanaians, and strengthening families.

He argued that Dr. Bawumia’s policies are specifically designed to create a conducive environment for business growth, which in turn will lead to job creation and economic stability.

Hughes noted that through prioritizing entrepreneurship and innovation, the NPP aims to provide young Ghanaians with the tools they need to succeed in a competitive job market.

He emphasized that this political choice goes beyond mere party affiliation; it represents a commitment to fostering social cohesion and improving the quality of life for families across the nation.
