Afrobeats artist, Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, known professionally as Ayra Starr, has opened up about her approach to dating and the factors that have influenced her current single status.

Ayra Starr acknowledged that at just 22, her expectations for relationships are quite elevated, making it challenging for potential partners to meet those criteria.

She expressed gratitude for not engaging in dating before her rise to fame.

“I’m so happy I wasn’t really dating before I started music. I didn’t really know what I was missing. So now that I waited this long to date people, I have very high standards. If it’s gonna be hard to meet it, it’s gonna be bye-bye. But also, I don’t have time for myself, talk less of a boy.”

Ayra Starr had earlier revealed that she has never fallen in love.

She further stated that she cannot date any of her colleagues. The singer said her dream man is a billionaire who will sponsor her luxurious lifestyle.

The ‘Bloody Samaritan’ hitmaker responded when asked if she would want to date someone who’s in her industry.

“In the dream world, it wouldn’t be somebody that is in the [music] industry. Probably just like a billionaire. On a yacht. In Dubai. In a thong [laughs].”

The Afrobeats singer also revealed that she still lives with her family despite her fame and wealth.

She explained that her status has not stopped her from involving friends and family in her life. “When I go back home [Nigeria], I still live with my family,” Ayra Starr said.

“My brothers are making noise playing video games. I still involve my friends in my life. We have a group chat where I solicit their opinions on what I wear. I thank God for my friends and family. Although, sometimes, it gets overwhelming and I have to disappear.”

Ayra Starr recently shared how cooking Nigerian meals plays a vital role in her life, especially while on the road.

The singer, who has always been open about her love for Nigerian food, especially yam and egg, stressed that while on the road she prefers home-cooked meals.

“One thing I’m going to do when I’m on the road is to make sure to have a TV show so I can disappear for three minutes to watch it; I’d watch it on my phone,” she said, emphasizing the importance of finding small moments of relaxation.

“I also try to eat Nigerian food wherever I am because it keeps me happy. I was like, ‘I don’t want to eat burgers again. Are we eating burgers again?’ please.”

The ‘RUSH’ crooner opened up about how cooking puts her at peace.

“Sometimes I just want to eat my food, and sometimes I try to stay in serviced apartments whenever I can so that I can cook. I feel like that keeps me and centers me. So even if I’m tired from a shoe and it’s late, even if it’s 9, 10, or 11 p.m., cooking is relaxing for me.”
