Vice President Kamala Harris has conceded the 2024 election, calling President-elect Donald Trump to offer her congratulations.

According to a senior aide, Harris discussed the importance of a peaceful transfer of power and being a President for all Americans.

Trump’s campaign said in a statement about the call that Trump “acknowledged Vice President Harris on her strength, professionalism, and tenacity throughout the campaign, and both leaders agreed on the importance of unifying the country.”

Harris is set to deliver remarks at 4 p.m. ET (9 p.m GMT) at Howard University — her alma mater.

The official added that the President is also planning to address the nation on Thursday, November 7, 2024.

“President Biden expressed his commitment to ensuring a smooth transition and emphasized the importance of working to bring the country together.

“He also invited President-elect Trump to meet with him in the White House. The staff will coordinate a specific date in the near future.”

Former President Bush Congratulates Trump

Earlier, Former President George W. Bush offered his first statement on the 2024 presidential campaign, congratulating former President Donald Trump on his victory.

“I congratulate President Trump on his election as 47th President of the United States of America, as well as Vice President-elect J.D. Vance and their families.

“Laura and I are grateful to the election officials, poll workers, and volunteers who oversaw a free and fair election.

In a statement, the former President said that he and his wife, Laura, “join our fellow citizens in praying for the success of our new leaders at all levels of government.”

Republicans in Congress also congratulated Donald Trump on his historic reelection.

House Speaker, Mike Johnson said in a statement, “With President Trump back in the White House, there is no obstacle too great and no challenge too difficult.”

Senator John Thune said on X, “The incoming Senate Republican majority will work hand-in-hand with the Trump-Vance administration to lower costs for families, secure our southern border, and renew America’s energy dominance.”

Senator John Cornyn said in a statement, “I’m confident President Trump will hit the ground running to restore the Office of the President to what it should be – one that keeps the American people safe and prosperous.”

“Come January, we must be ready to confirm his nominees, pass a budget, address our debt, extend the Trump tax cuts, and reverse Kamala Harris’ disastrous border security policies.”

Moreover, former Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley, who became one of Trump’s more vocal challengers in the 2024 Republican primary before eventually endorsing him, said on her radio show that he “defied gravity” with his win.

“He got through two assassination attempts. He got through two impeachments, he got through numerous indictments, and America still elected him because, at the end of the day, they knew what they were getting with Donald Trump. And that’s what they wanted to see.”

Haley called it “a great moment for democracy.”
