Basketmouth Reveals Reason He Turned Down MC Roles

Basketmouth

Popular comedian, actor, and music executive, Bright Okpocha, better known as Basketmouth has revealed why he stopped being the master of ceremony (MC) at wedding events.

The 46-year-old entertainer described his decision as a “sacrifice” necessary to preserve his artistic integrity.

Basketmouth clarified that he only stopped being MC at private gigs like weddings, not entirely quitting duties as host.

He added that if invited to a private gig, “I will be doing standup comedy, not the MC”.

“The only thing I have stopped is private gigs like weddings and all. It is a sacrifice I have to make because I do standup comedy, that is what I do. I did not enter this industry to be an MC of a wedding and all that.”

According to him, he felt like he was “adulterating the art”, adding that he felt bad about it and had to stop.

“Let me just do my 30 minutes and bounce, but not as the MC of any event. I cannot do it anymore, that is like I am cheating on my craft. I am losing a lot of money but it is not about the money now.”

Comedian Basketmouth replied to fans curious about his relationship with fellow entertainer, Victoria Eze known popularly as Miz Vick.

Basketmouth who recently made his film debut with A Ghetto Love Story, shared stunning photos on Instagram featuring himself and the actress, referring to them as the “King and Queen” of a new era in Nigerian cinema.

In the comment section, a fan hinted at a deeper relationship, stating, “We are waiting for you to use the right word for her; till then, Basket.”

In response, Basketmouth simply wrote, “Great things take time,” hinting at the possibility of a more serious announcement in the future.

Another follower suggested that by the time Basketmouth and Victoria reveal any wedding photos, it might come as a surprise to many who may dismiss it as a publicity stunt.

To this, the comedian replied, “Such is life,” leaving fans guessing.

A netizen then said, “The two of you look so good together. Na just Film Abi e pass like this? Una blend.” Basketmouth seemingly confirmed, “Na collabo.”

Early this year, an Instagram blogger unveiled Victoria as the lady allegedly behind Basketmouth’s crashed marriage.

According to the blogger, the two have been having an affair and are still going strong following his separation from his wife and the mother of his kids.

In September, Basketmouth announced that he was beginning a new chapter of his life with the TV host. Sharing a loved-up photo of him and Miz Vick, he teased his fans and followers that he had a big announcement.

Moreover, the comedian-cum-filmmaker premiered his much-anticipated debut feature film, ‘A Ghetto Love Story’ at the IMAX Filmhouse Cinema in Lekki, Lagos.

The film, directed by Daniel Oriahi, produced by Basketmouth, and written by Victoria Eze, aka Mizvick, has sparked excitement amongst Nollywood lovers.

Basketmouth opened up about his seamless transition into filmmaking.

“Movies have always been my ultimate goal. From comedy to TV series and music, it led to this. The process wasn’t just a shift and culmination of years of preparation and passion.”

Basketmouth

He addressed the challenges of producing a film during Nigeria’s harsh economic climate.

“The financial aspect was the toughest part. Rising production costs meant adjusting our budget multiple times. However, I was determined to deliver a project prioritizing quality over profit.”

Basketmouth

Basketmouth reflected on the highs and lows of bringing the Ghetto Love Story vision to life.

“The cast and crew were incredible. However, there were delays due to budget constraints, and some cast members had to leave the project because of scheduling conflicts. Despite these challenges, we pushed through and made something we’re truly proud of.”
