The MP-elect for Weija-Gbawe, Mr. Jerry Amed Shaib, has spoken on his electoral victory, and his vision for the constituency.

Despite the odds, Mr.  Amed Shaib expressed deep gratitude for the people’s trust and highlighted his efforts. He emphasized;

“It’s been just by the grace of God and with the massive support of the people within the constituency, I endeared myself to the people. I showed them that I care and worked very hard.”

“I did morning evangelisms. I visited all the stations, visited all the taxi stations, spoke to people, got on taxis, and delivered my policies and messages.’’

He organized over 50 health screening exercises, visited numerous homes, and made a concerted effort to understand and resolve local issues. These actions, according to Hon. Amed Shaib, solidified his bond with the people and proved instrumental in his victory.

The MP-elect acknowledged that the election was far from easy, describing the political landscape as daunting. He dismissed assumptions of guaranteed victory due to past high margins in the constituency. He noted;

“I came in with the understanding that is a facade. It wasn’t looking very good, So I worked like I was rather in the opposition whilst my opponent was always sleeping.”

“Even in the coalition, he [my opponent] was sleeping. I never moved. I was standing, sitting, calculating, and getting my people to get everything [done properly].

Mr. Amed Shaib emphasized the importance of unity in governing the constituency.

“They’ve shown magnanimity. They’ve called me to congratulate me,” he said, referring to some of his fellow candidates.

However, he also criticized the actions of Mr. Felix Odartey Lamtey, his main opponent from the NDC, for contesting the election results without evidence.

“If you have any doubt and you think that you are challenging, the best place to go is to go to the court instead of fostering and fomenting troubles.’’

He called for peace and collaboration, urging all stakeholders, including traditional leaders, religious groups, and the youth, to work together for the development of the constituency.

Development Agenda for Weija-Gbawe

Looking ahead, Mr. Amed Shaib outlined his priorities for the constituency, focusing on healthcare, infrastructure, and youth development.

“Not everybody has the money to go to the hospital. So, one of the major things I can do is to run the screenings at every electoral area. By 2032, each and every person within should have a National Health Insurance card so that you can access healthcare without so much hassle.”

Mr. Amed Shaib identified roads and drainage systems as critical areas of concern, citing frequent flooding and deteriorating infrastructure. He pledged to prioritize these issues during his tenure.

“We find ourselves in a lot of schools that need rehabilitation and renovations. We need to support our youth who are largely getting involved in all manner of behaviors that we don’t want to see them continue.’’

Mr. Amed Shaib also announced an innovative use of the MP vehicle loan. He stated;

“I intend to use those monies to buy grader machines that are used for the construction of roads. I’m never going to buy a V8 for the purposes of being a member of parliament.’’

The MP-elect is committed to engaging the youth in constructive activities and addressing behavioral issues.

“Let’s get the youth transformed. Let’s get the constituency transformed. Let’s get the chiefs and traditional leaders and all stakeholders on board.’’

Although a new face in parliament, Mr. Amed Shaib promised to prioritize national interests. He reiterated; “You should expect a real Ghanaian. I’m going to represent the Ghanaian people and let them understand that Ghana comes first.’’

Mr. Jerry Amed Shaib’s message underscores his dedication to serving the people of Weija-Gbawe with integrity and inclusivity.

His focus on healthcare, infrastructure, and community engagement reflects his commitment to addressing the constituency’s pressing needs.

With a collaborative approach and a clear vision, Mr. Amed Shaib aims to transform Weija-Gbawe into a model constituency that prioritizes development and unity.
